Smithing Modifaction Items

I'm a little confused about smithing modification items. Do they actually increase your skill in smithing, or just make it more likely for you to create an item? Also, what are some smithing modification items and how can i get them?

If you click on the FAQ at the top of this forum you'll see a list posted in there.

Smithing mod items raise your effective skill when trying to make items.
You dont see your adjusted skill though.

And unfortunitely they don't stack.

Also the only item most non-uber-guild people ever get their hands on are +5% Geerlok automated hammers.
(if you are a large race smith with some high level friends you might be in luck and get a +10% Massive Girdle of the Forge - do a search for that or for "Bikun" or "Bikum" for the where/who/how threads).

Preserium Bikum in one of the sseru 4 houses (heart, hand, shoulder,eye) Drops the massive girdle of the forge. He is not to dificult if you have the DPS as well as 2 wiz and 2 mages.

Actually, people are starting to realize how easy XTC in Ssra is, and even non 'uber' guilds are starting to bag him. He drops a hammer with +15% smithing.

The best one drops in VT, so that's still kinda Uber land.. (it's still only 15%, but its stats are amazing)

Praesertum Bikun can be found atop the Shoulder building. Unfortunately, I am a Dwarf and cannot use his belt.
