I've got a level 32 warrior (very well twinked if that even matters) and was wondering if he would be capable of farming components for ss armor. I figure I might as well try to start collecting this stuff now rather than just farming it all at once later. So, what level would I need to be to begin collecting swirling shadows and shrieking/wailing substances? Also, would I be able to do the Shar Vahl anvil/hammer quest at my present level? Any help would be most appreciated. Thanks.

Minimum level to begin farming components for shadowscream?

You should be able to do it all at level 32 but it would go far faster with a healer to back you up. Most of the MoBs hit pretty hard for their level but are strictly melee outside of the grimling village.
The islands can easily be single pulled at 32 if you stay away from the village itself and you can farm Swirling Shadows in SWT from level 5 mobs (Don't even think of trying the Shadows in TS a 32, as a pure melee you will be 60 before those guys are possible).
You won't be able to manipulate the war at 32 so you would have to wait for opportune moments to do your farming. You could farm owlbears in Paludal Caverns pretty easily at 32 but the wolves in TM would eat you alive so the islands are your best bet for them.

You might be able to solo on the islands, but the wolves have casters that heal and sow, and the owlbears stun. Both types run at low health, the trick is not to chase them but wait at their spawn point, as they warp back there once they think you're not chasing them. I can't remember what level I started soloing there, but it was more like 40, and even at 50 I've been killed a couple of times trying to manipulate the war.Kradlum O'Kradlum

swirling shadows
Thanks for the tips guys. Well, today I went to Shadeweavers and started farming swirling shadows. It took me 2 hours to farm 10! As a warrior, I obviously can't track. I can't sense undead. All I can do is run around blindly and look for the shades. There really aren't even too many of them at all from what I saw either. I hung out over by the Paludal cave area since I heard that's a good place for them to show up. Still hardly any ever did. Ten in 2 hours is absolutely stupid.
Is this normal?

If you farm by the Paludal Cave you need to kill everything that spawns in the area to make the Shades keep spawning. The Hill above the tunnel and the rocks to the right (if you're facing the tunnel) always have Shades up.
I think you'll be better off levelling up a few levels before farming though.Kradlum O'Kradlum

You don't need track or sense undead to hunt swirling shadows if you stay up by their spawn area in the northeast corner. I have sense undead but I almost never use it because I know the spawn spots so well I just make my tours.
Still, 10 shadows are 10 shadows. Save them.

In addition to killing everything in that area (you're in the best available area, for what it's worth), make sure you're looting everything off the corpses. A corpse continues to take up a "spot" that a new shade/skellie could spawn in until it poofs.Velurian

Please do not start up that old wives tale again. Mobs timers are set on their death and will continue to spawn if a corpse is there or not. Best spot for proof is any newbie zone since things insta spawn.... Kill something, did another spawn even though a corpse was left behind? Yes.Originally posted by VelurianA corpse continues to take up a "spot" that a new shade/skellie could spawn in until it poofs.Ianthe - 65 Dread Lord

I always leave extra stuff on the corpses (how many hundreds of shadeling silk does one person NEED??) and stuff always repops there. I've had them repop on top of corpses before.

Only if you use low quality rockhopper pelts, which I don't.

well...
I just completed a 3 hour farm session give or take 15 minutes and came up with 101 shadows. MUCH better than my original 10 in two hours lol. I'm overflowing with silks and bone chips.
I did try leaving some corpses and still got same spawn rate so know that it doesn't matter to leave corpses around.
I also noticed that I would get more shades during the daylight hours than at night hours.
Thanks again for the tips everyone. I think I can actually stick with this now that I see some progress on drops. As for the shrieking/wailing substances I don't know yet. I haven't even conned the mobs I need to kill in HS for them. I'm 35 now so will see after I get sick of farming shades. At the very least, I should be set on shadows (by the time I'm done) which is a huge plus.

So bring a sewing kit! And some patterns. It's a crime letting those things go to waste. Low trivial, but the extras can always be turned into threads for padding.
If he's very well twinked perhaps he doesn't need the money selling padding, but you can never have enough leather padding it seems. Use the padding yourself or sell it for surprisingly good money, it all works. And it all takes silks!

It maybe a shame to let the silks rot, but there is a limit to just how many silks a person can have. I currently have 3 chars who are overloaded with silks, and since I need another 260 shadows for my next run, I'm only going to get more. Enough smiths are farming shadows on AB that the shadeling silk market has dropped right out of the bazaar. I'm selling silks at 5gp and threads at 1pp, and they still don't sell. Last night I dumped another 400 silks on my shaman and trained him up to 26 in tailoring making threads-cords-bandages, then had him nuke himself down and practice bind wounds, just to get rid of some stock!Kradlum O'Kradlum

Get to 65, cause if you're level 35 then all the bigger kids will kill much faster than you and youll be left with 1 hut if your lucky.
The XP in Howlshade per mob and difficulty is crap! You'll end up saving more time if you level where there is good xp and then come back when you can hold your own and kill at a much faster rate.
Ding 60 or 65 then start farming for Shadowscream.
