  • Wisdom or Strength

I realize this is an age old question, however it has seemed to me that Wisdom tends to net faster skillups then strength. I have both a wisdom and a strength suit, I would like to know which one to go with if it matters.
Is this true or are both the same?

I've been smithing in the game for many years and since the str addition to smithing, I found my skill ups had improved. I smith at 255 str and generally 225 wis combined. Just what I have seen

It's kinda hard to answer that question without EXTENSIVE testing. All I can tell you is that the OFFICAL word is that it does not matter; the skill value (225 or what ever) is all that gets used so it's the same. I've not seen or read anything that disagrees with the official word yet so I think it's fairly safe to assume that it really doesn't matter.

Wis or Str, whichever gets a stat higher, e.g., 230 wis is better than 225 str, and 230 str is better than 225 wisdom.

Oh - and good karma with the RNG. That's the most important part of a smithing suit.

Lose the strength suit and go with wisdom. Makes room in inventory and wisdom is good for all tradeskills. I did and haven't seen a difference.

Strength is easier to twink and buff. However, if you have a viable choice between strength and intelligence/wisdom, go with intelligence/wisdom. Smithing is the only tradeskill where strength is a factor, so if you want to do other tradeskills that support smithing like brewing, strength won't help you one iota.

Is there the *slightest* chance yull ever work on another tradeskill besides smithing? Yes? Go WIS. No? Go STR.

A STR suit doesnt have to be very good. So many items are chock-full of STR (to me, a worthless stat) and you can always get a Focus and Ferine Avatar to go from 90STR to 300STR.

High level smithing generally requires at least brewing -- if you want to make mistletoe cutting sickles, for example, mistletoe temper requires level 136 brewing and 103 pottery. Fine plate requires level 31 tailoring, though you can get this with even fairly low int/wis. Engraved royal velium armor requires over 170 skill in smithing, jewelling, and tailoring.

It's not good to limit your options if you have choices.
