Approximately how many combines? 188 - 242

I know it varries from person to person.. But is there an average round about number of combines I should expect to be prepared to fund for this part of the journey? I plan on doing Field Plate and I have 254 Wisdom with KEI and wis gear on.

30-40 per point on average to 220, 20 per point on average after that.

One bad run can really throw the averages though.

When I was 188 smithing I talked to someone who was doing shadowscream. He kept pretty good track of how many he did and while I cant remember all the number I remember it calculated to almost exactly 20 combines per skill up for him when going from 180ish to 230ish exclusivly on shadowscream.

I cant stand Shadowscream and decided to go the sickle route and I had about 25-30 combines per skill up from 191 to 210 (355int). After a bad batch of 120 sickles with only 1 skill up I stopped keeping strict track of how many I did, but I'm pretty sure it was about 25-30 combines per skill up.

Personally, I think success is more likely to yield a skill up. So doing shadowscream instead of sickles in the 200 area will probably yield more skill ups per combine as it seemed to with the ranger an I even though I have 100 more int than he has strength (which I dont even really think helps much). Shadowscream of course has a much higher success rate than sickles even those both are 250+ trivial. I only did 20 shadowscream but I think about 17 were successful at 190 skill. At 231 with geerlock I still fail 10 or so sickles per success. I found most of my trade skills to be in the 20 to 30 combines per skill up for 200+ range although I'm pretty sure it varies depending on trade.

I'm doing Shadowscream, with occasional Acrylia as supplies allow.

I'd say 7-15 on average from 188-200
15-25 on average 200-212

I haven't got further than that, but I was estimating 20-25 per point for the next 30. Last night however I got 3 skillups in 16 combines to go from 209 to 212

Doing human cultural, I continue to get nearly exactly one skill-up per twenty combines (189-216 so far).

The sheer predictablility of my skill ups is starting to worry me, I practically never have either a good run or a bad run. Every 20 combines I get a skill up, kind of eerie

So much is going to depend on your wis/int that it's hard for one person's results to speak to another's -- add the fickleness of RNG plus the wild variations in wis/int between people, and you get little to go on.

Well, I did some combines today. Was doing it for a low level friend who could actually use the field plate. I was successful on 2 BP's (selling one) and 3 sets of legs (selling 2). I only failed on 2 helms and one pair of legs.. The trivial on the BP is supposed to be 242 and I'm only 188.. Just a fluke that I made 2 I guess? And 3 legs? failing only once.. Well, at any rate I'm encouraged by the results but will probably have it thrown in my face soon enough.. oh and btw, out of 15 combines I got exactly zero skill ups -not suprised though.

Combine is not Combine.

You do 10 Mistletoe and you fail 8 times.
You do 10 Tae ew chain Tunic and you fail 4 times.
You do 10 SS Armor and you fail 1-2 times.

They all >250 but the sucess rate is different.

I personally had best results with SS armor. I got 2 skill ups on them. But and this is a big but, you can have NASTY runs of luck. I personally did very close to 400 combines before I got from 191 to 192 so be warned it can happen, just press on.
