  • Little question about the Shadowscream Quest

    Hey Hey,

Little question regarding Shadowscream. No, not the actual armor...the quest. How rare are these bloodling carapaces? I've killed about 50, without a single carapace...and I'm expected to get 16? hehe, I know it'll be tougher down the road...but I'm just trying to verify I'm actually killing the right mob. What I've been hunting is Chk'ta Bloodling...any help would be greatly appreciated :0)

The carapaces are fairly rare, tho zero for fifty is perhaps a bit unusual, it's not unheard of. Maybe you'll get lucky later and get two in a row! In any case, yep, the bloodlings are the right mobs. I'd guess it took me about an hour to an hour and a half to collect all that I needed.

That is the correct mob. They spawn around the PoK portal area. I spent 3 1/2 hours getting my 16. Good luck friend.

They are pretty rare. I did this quest just last week, and took a similar almost 4 hours to get all 16. They aren't no drop, so there might also be a chance that you could find them on vendors in the area. I wasn't so lucky in that respect, and was forced to hunt for all of them. Good luck!

When I did it, I calculated the average drop rate of 1 in 10. Unfortunately they seem to be on a 12-hour (game time) cycle with silkworms. Silkworms up, bloodlings not up, and vice versa.

Look at vendors; I got five or six that way. Send a shout to zone and offer to pay for some.

Better yet: Find another smith who has already completed this part of the quest who has not trashed his or her Bloodling Mail. You can borrow the bloodling mail, turn it in to Barkham, get the hammer and skip that section entirely.

            Heh

I literally JUST did this about 30 minutes ago.

Took me 3 hours of genocide, and shouting that I was paying 5 PP per for bloodling carapaces.

I didn't find any on merchants, I bought 5 from others, and buffed/healed the hunters (26 cleric doing the smithing).

3 hours, got 11 myself, and bought 5 from others hunting for me.

I'm off to bed, MAN am I tired!

I had the worst time with this. First of all, the 4 different creaters in teh noob zone seem to be somehow cyclical. Sometimes you cant even find the little buggers and sometimes they are all over the place.

So here was my experience. I go to the quest guy to buy a shield container to combine in and see one of the shells on him. I'm thinking score and bought it. So I open the shield container and try to put a shell in... doesnt fit. I'm boggled and thought I'd spent the last 2 hours farming the wrong thing. After some messing around I find that only that one (that I bought) didnt fit cause it had a slightly different name and I put the 10 I farmed in and combine to get some shield thing. So I go farm 10 more for a few hours and combine than for a second sheild. I go to the forge to do the combine and it doesnt work. I re-look up what has to be done and I see I have to turn the shields into the quest NPC you buy the shield container from. So I turn them in and get a shell like thing back from him thats used in the forge combine and I realize that first shell I bought that didnt fit in the container was actually the finished turned in part. So, theres my story of bad luck... I found the combined turned in 10 shell thing on the vendor and didnt even realize it and went out and farmed 10 more for my second one.

The armor you have to turn into him is droppable and not consumed when you turn it in for the first hammer. So you might want to ask around and see if anyone kept one. I have mine for sale for 500pp in the bazaar but I think most dont know you can buy it. I assumed it would be no drop and/or consumed in the quest. If I could have bought one to save me all that work I would have done it in a heartbeat. Farming level 1 noobie creatures is not my idea of fun.

The whole bloodling plate quest is meant to be newbie armor. AC 13 chest and AC 6 shield isn't bad at that level at all-just for killing a bunch of bloodlings.

I did this one, took me about 5 hours. Just kept killing EVERYTHING that spawned near the book. Respawns pop as you kill off X creatures, and bloodlings/silkworms are on the same cycle.

Just keep killing everything and you'll get the best number of bloodlings to spawn. If it starts to drive you nuts,go across the zone and bash lesser shades-you need the swirling shadows anyway later.

They're common as dirt right around the cavern entrance.

They are on a cycle with the xakra worms... and here is my theory on that: even though *you can't tell what time it is on Luclin, the bugs can :P

The bloodlings only seem to spawn during Norrath's day hours and the xakra at night. You can ask a buddy who's not on Luclin to let you know what time it is so you don't waste your time looking.

I'd recommend hunting for swirling shadows during the night hours.

                    thanks for the help

Thanks for all the replys. Did this part of the quest, took about 3 to 3 1/2 hours total. Went through merchants in Shar Vahl...nothing. I even lost 2 carapaces merchant mining. It seems if you sell the carapace, they don't show up in the inventory (or at least this happened to me). I bought almost everything from an overfull vendor, and even once everything was visible, my carapace didn't show up. Did this to 2 different merchants before I wisened up.

Also, got one carapace from shouting in OOC for the entire time I was paying. Ended up paying 50pp for that one, because I'd become desperate to be done with this portion of the quest by the time I was done. Oh well, all is said and done, I have my quest over and now I can begin more mind numbing farming of greens!

Over 6 hours here. Got the first five in about 15 minutes, got me to thinking this was going to be easy. Three hours later, I had a total of six. (Several hundred kills between number 5 and number 6.) So yes, you can go through some crazy periods of not seeing any. Like everything else, blame the RNG.

Hmm, strange. I got about half of my carapace from vendors. There are 3 carapaces that has same graphics and I had to dig down but I managed to get one from a vendor in Shar Vahl and rest from the vendor just outside. That sure saved my time hunting greenies.
