With regards to similar vendors like the gypsies in NK having different prices..

This is mentioned somewhere else, but with a site as large as this one god only knows exactly where and I'm too tired to look it up.

The gist was that if the vendor has had a "busy day", sellback is going to be lower, and purchasing is going to be higher. Using the gyspies as an example, the comments about the lightstone make sense.. Virtually everyone who does that quest immediately does a turnover and sells back to the quest NPC.. because of that, she's getting a lot of business and feels she can up her rates a bit (and pay less when you sell to her).

I try to avoid selling to any vendors that DON'T have at least one empty slot left, although frequently I'm in a rush so I don't take the time. Usually with a minor amount of hunting you can up your sellback considerably.

Something else I haven't tested extensively so it MIGHT be my imagination, but it seems like the price of an item (FP bracer for example) won't go down no matter how many you sell to a vendor, as long as you don't close the window. But if you sell a bunch to clear your inventory, go make more, and come back to the vendor, frequently he'll give you less money for the item.

I've definitely had prices go down for the same item as I sold a lot of them to a single vendor; I don't think it matters whether you close the window.

Oh, and the other "magic" level for charisma is 125: this will get you best prices with apprehensive faction (assuming a normal, non-"greedy" merchant).

(And below apprehensive, you won't be able to sell.)

People say these magic numbers, but as a bard with 255 cha, I checked prices with amx ally faction in Rivervale. Between 100 and 125 I saw a marked improvement in sell rate (was using FP visor), but from 125 to 190 I saw no difference. At 190 (last increase) I recieved a full plat more than at 125, and the same at 255. I therefore think something has changed, or perhaps I had a fluky test. I tried to test on every vendor in the zone ( I always do my skillups in RV, everything is soo near) I could find, and it made no difference, at 190+ cha, I still got 7gp-1pp increase in sellback amounts.

However, there is one more factor to work in. If this conversion process is trivial, you still have a 5% chance of failing the combine that turns 3 small bricks into 1 large brick. When you purchase a large brick, you have a large brick, but when you combine 3 small bricks into 1 large brick, you CAN lose all the ore. So, we need to reduce the ore value somewhat to adjust for this 5% failure chance. The adjusted ore value of most fine steel weapons, therefore, is 5p 4g 8s 6c, except two-handed swords and spears, which is 7p 3g 1s 5c.
Just number checking. Did you factor in a second 5% fail rait on the 3 small peices into small brick combine?

As it turns out, there are only four weapons that sell below their ore value. These are: daggers (sells to vendors for 4p 2g 8s 6c), short swords (sells to vendors for 5p 2g 3s 8c), two-handed swords (sells to vendors for 6p 6g 6s 7c) and spears (sells to vendors for 6p 9s 5c).
Was your conversion on daggers yeilding a small brick? The last time i did this, i recieved only 2 small peices from the dagger conversion.

This is mentioned somewhere else, but with a site as large as this one god only knows exactly where and I'm too tired to look it up.

              Conversions

First off GREAT job on running the numbers. I've been a fan of conversions, mainly because I never seem to be able to coordinate having enough PP to buy the HQ ore from a vendor when he has it.

With that said, I have to mention that I have seen every FS wep convert into both small bricks and small pieces. I have had a dagger convert only into small pieces, and I have had short swords convert into one of each. 2handers and spears mainly convert into both, but not always. I'm always a bit miffed when my 2hander only gives me a small brick. LOL.

I have also spent a lot of time in Stonebrunt and have converted most (maybe all, but can't remember all the strange names) of the FS weps that drop there. Like the other FS weps, sometimes they just become a small brick, but sometimes you get a small piece as well.
