Alternate use for shield frames? (Vah Shir Smith Quest)

If you ask Sentry Kedra Kai in Shadeweaver's Thicket about Paludal Caverns,you get at the end:

"I would not be surprised if their carapaces fit into Master Barkhem's shield frames."

Unfortunately,every carapace I can find in there is Medium-sized,and does NOT fit in the shield frames.

Bug? Mistake? I missed a critter in there somewhere?

Remind me to try and make some different bloodling plate pieces,too...when I can stand whacking that many bloodlings again...I've got to finish my humming mallet first.

Shield Quest

There's a quest starting with the barbarian in the stone building on the road that ends with combining a whisperling spirit into a Barkhem shield. End result is a no drop newbie shaman only shield that looks like a Lodizal Shield.

I know about the quest shield,but the Sentry specifically says something in the caverns fits those shield frames...and so far,I haven't found any good items that might fit the bill.

Maybe one of the bugs in the Caverns was supposed to have size Small carapaces to loot?
