  • When to start Cultural Plate armor combines?

First time poster, but I lurk here quite often for advice and ideas. I am a human smith on Ayonae Ro, with a skill of 210. I want to know at what skill level have others tried doing the combines for the heraldic plate armor and what kind of success I can expect. I believe I read here somewhere that some recommend trying the cultural combines after they hit 212. Is this a viable number to start realizing skill-ups and will I see any successes at all? Thanks!

    Well

I can't answer that definitively, however, I've seen posted many many times, that many people get 25-35% success at an effective level of 222 (212 plus gearlok)

What it boils down to is, how comfortable are you with a 25% success rate, or lower? Do you have the plat to suck up that kinda money in failures?

I myself am at 201, and hope to make a few tries at cultural dwarven when I get to 212 myself. Guess we'll see what happens eh?

      212!!!

If I can see skill-ups and also have the possibility to make some nice Luminant Heraldic for my Paladin, the failures won't hurt too much. I have farmed a lot of stuff needed already and the platinum is not truly a major concern right now. Thanks for the response.

As a High elf after Fine Plate I did the chain combines till about 200-205 then started plate... I have seen better than a 25% success rate. I am now at 212 and working on getting more items to do more combines.

I didn't touch a blue diamond or a royal temper until I hit 242. At 242, I had about 50-60% success rate. I mostly used Freeport cultural/sea tempers to get from 242 to 248 and sickles to hit 250.

With the price of BDs dropping everyday, if you have a good supply of Essence of Sunlight, i'd say you can start now if you want. I started at about the same skill as you have now. A few things I have personally noticed, 1.) Unimbued seems to be easier than imbued. 2.) Bracers trivial higher than the other 1 ring items. 3.) Depending on your server, even with a high failure rate, you should be able to pull in some decent cash. Good Luck.

(oh, and Essence of Sunlight sucks  )

Radodverge was getting goodf enough success to break even or even make a small profit at 226 or so with Geerlock.

If you want to make for friends/your own use, and you have ready access to BDs/tempers, you may want to riska go now. For selling, wait a bit.

Both are >250 so i guess wait more.

Between 202 and 210, with a geerlok, I succeeded on 6 of 16 mistletoe cutter attempts, which I suspect is above average success. Once I discovered the components for the cutters didn't stack and were rather expensive I switched to doing human cultural.

Interesting, if I have a shot at doing Heraldic with a one in four or better chance of success I may start doing some, as there is at least a possibility of selling it in the Bazaar for a decent price (as opposed to imbued field plate, which rarely sells and only at cost if it does). Plus I know several people who would be happy to provide components in return for a chance at getting the Heraldic as long as there is some reasonable chance of success.

Time to pull out those stacks of sunlight and velium rings I have been hoarding. Blue diamonds are another story, unfortunately.

                    /wave

May reconize the name, also a human smith from Ayonae.

As far as I'm aware Liper is also currently doing combines and has about a 1/6 success rate on most of the pieces. I honestly waited until about 225 + geerlok before I started on mine. Really up to you and what success rate you're going for.
