Can we have proof of this from someone else on Test please...

Lucy.fnord.net says swirling shadows are STILL NORENT on Test.

    http://lucy.fnord.net/item.html?id=29817&source=Test

Can anyone confirm this... or is Lucy behind updates sometimes??

Just wanting to not get everyones hopes up if this is not true.

I agree with Zhorn, the original poster has only 1 post on this web site, and no offence to the original poster but you are an unknown source.

Originally, and I believe I have posted elsewhere (if that counts) on this site that removing the Swirling Shadows "No Rent" tag was a good idea.

After doing more smithing from that point, my only wish would be just to fix the war. If that involves removing the rewards, to an extent of nerfing them, great. I would prefer to see the war be a level 30 to 45 event myself (not sure what the original rewards were aimed at level wise).

It is painful to have to collect the Shadows, and the various substances, but they are all doable (I have not had a great deal of problems, and yes thats just me, and I don't play 24/7). The problem with the War as it exists I am sure everyone would agree is undesirable. It is obviously an unintentional bug from Verant, and if anything, fixing that would solve alot of problems. I would even go so far as to say, this in my mind would be a more desirable change for most players....

I don't want to build a path that makes Smithing too easy, I do like the fact there is an existing barrier, that is daunting for alot of players. And for players skilling up now, its really a case for the vast majority of them (I include myself in this), that we are only doing it to create items for ourselves/friends and bragging rights.

I suppose the real challange for Smithing, for Verant, is too keep Smithing a challenge, neither insanely hard or too easy.

Yup, Kiztent, I was smithing last May. =) But, not being in a large guild at the time, I couldn't get support to gather supplies to GM while fine steel was a viable track to that level. And my solo attempts ran afoul of a large number of druids ganking all the spiderlings all over Norath in order to sell silk thread at exhorbitant prices. Add to that the fact that I had to work (darn bill collectors), and I was unable to capitalize on the early GM retirement plan that SOE offered.

While it would have been nice to get there, it's been very rewarding to achieve the level I have on my own, post triv change. And now I'm building a customer base, generating business, and enjoying the fruits of my labor, as it were. It's been a long road, and I'm sure there are more frustrations to come, but like life, the fun is in the overcoming those hardships.

Well, maybe life isn't like that, because you don't get to re-spawn after you mess up, but EQ works that way, most of the time.

If this goes live it will be great. The downside is I see 100 people farming the shadows in twilight sea to sell the shadows at rediculous amounts in the bazaar.

Oh for gods sake yeah, you can confirm it. Just ask Kizer on Test, Qiathaa on test, etc...etc.. Anyone from TSF on TEST knows this is there. Btw just because i have never posted before does NOT make me a liar.

My name is Pieo on test, just ask around. Oh and another little tidbit. I was literally just talking with a Dev who *gasp* was actually working on the war there.

Oh, btw check Lucy NOW. I give you guys a ray of hope and you call me a liar. Well forget me ever giving you any more Test tidbits

No one called you a liar.

This change will fundamentally affect almost all smiths skilling up past 188.

Hence why they are all deeply worried by this and want it comfirmed.
(Personally I think that IF it becomes easier to hit 240 smithing, then A LOT of people will see their monopolies/profit margins suffer.)

You can choose to take offence at this or you can choose to understand WHY people are so worried.

              Your choice.

Actually, *I* confirmed this in the serverwide.eqtraders channel a few days ago, after confirming it with several of my sources on Test.

I didn't post anything here as I'd expected that *someone* would be saying something about it, and I was also expecting that at least one person would complain about the change. Given my tolerance lately for all the negativity around here, I decided I'd let someone else bring up the subject.

                {rolls eyes expressively}

Can't please even half the people half the time around here, it seems.

I've known the change was coming. I was waiting for someone from test to bring it up so I could happily jump in and say "I KNEW!" hehe.

Lets have a little faith folks, something is being done about something we have complained about. Lets at least let it HAPPEN before we jump down the developers throats about it. They are experimenting with increased spawnrate (I'm assuming the original poster meant they spawn faster...not slower) to see how that will effect the skillup route. It's NOT live yet, so quite likely the spawnrate change will not happen if they discover it makes GM'ing smithing a walk in the park. However, any way you look at it...a change is necessary. Even if they make the swirling shadows no drop instead of no rent. Even if they make them droppable AND rentable. We don't like how it stands now right? So anything they do is better, insofar as it means they listened to us. At least things are never boring *nod*

Nobody called you a liar, everyone always asks for a 2nd confirmation on these types of things on this website. Its happened like forever. Believe it or not, people get great enjoyment out of posting false information.

It will be interesting to see these changes in place, while I have done an about turn in my original agreement, its just great to see that V.I are doing, or trying, to do really positiive things with smithing.

Hopefully, I am not percieved as a *negative* poster, my concern is that Smithing is at a very delicate stage. Fine tuning this skill, is an enormous challenge for the developer.

Grimini, I'm looking forward to seeing how things get changed. But I don't need to wait and see it happen to have an opinion about how I feel about it. I've been making submissions to SOE about shadowscream once a month for the past year, and every post has requested that the no rent tag get switched to no drop.

Am I glad that they appear to be listening to a relatively small community about one particular aspect of the game? Sure as heck I am. Am I a little apprehesive about how well they will have listened? Sure as heck I am. The problem being, who is the "us" they listened to.

ANd I know darn well that my concerns are in part tied to the fact that GM smithing is potentially about to get a lot easier, AFTER I didn't have the time to take advantadge of the fine steel route, and AFTER I've struggled and sweated through cultural, acrylia, and the No Rent shadowscream system. Oh, and did I mention I'm a monk? Although this does give me a little hope that, if SOE will hear the smithing community on this issue, there's still a chance that they will address the issues with the monk, too.

Which on the whole, might be bad for my smithing career, overall. Hmmmmm

Hopefully this was in response to the /bug I made on Saturday night where I spotted a lone Grimling get throught the Owlbear Defenders while the Sonic Wolves were attacking, causing the Owlbears to de-spawn. I /bugged it, and /petitioned it, the guide that spoke to me also said she would /bug it, and my friendly GM also said /she would /bug it.

I know it won't fix all the problems war, but at least it would make it more easy to manage.

I had got to the point on Sunday of attempting to corrupt a GM. I was planning to point out that the war was broken, and I would have to petition every day for it to be re-set. The only way to prevent my daily petition would be to give me 5 stacks of Wailing Substance

With the swirling shadows being changed to not no rent on test, has anyone on test server checked the trivials on shadowscream armor? Are they the same as before or lower?

I have 8 stacks of shrieking and wailing substances in the bank right now, and the only thing on my mind is: I hope when I get time to farm swirling shadows, that they're not being camped by someone who only wants to sell them to me at an outrageous price.

If I'm unable to farm my own shadows, or buy them at a reasonable price then removing the no-rent tag will make skilling up an even bigger timesink than it was with no-rent shadows.

Your concern, Gummo, is the exact reason why I always requested the No Rent tag get changed to No Drop. I do have a feeling now that, like all other tradeskill items (silk, hides, rare ore and blood, essences) there will be a market for them, and that means there will be non-tradeskillers out to profit from that. This change overall will, I think, hurt the smithing market. I'm just thankful that I've hit 236, and don't desperately need SS as a way to increase my skill. For the first time, I'm a little ahead of the tweaking curve.
