  • Smithing raised via only drops!

I have just started a new charector. Hes a druid, my second druid. Had one to 44 before i wiped my account. I decided i was gona put everything i got to use. From foraged, to looted. Thats when i began my quest to raise smithing from droped items only. I started out collecting rusty weapons and converting them into tarnish then into ore. I used foraged water and converted it into flasks of water. My question is now that im pushing 10 woOHOOo lol, is there any place that drops ore. I seem to remember rock dervish's in LavaStorm droping them but can't remember. I am gona head there anyways when i hit 14 *did that with my other druid flew to 20 off of summond*. Also, feel free to add additional tips to aid me in my quest. Or perhaps tell storys about ur own tradeskill quests

The dervishes in LS should still be dropping ore. You can also get ore from the muddites in Beholder's Gorge.

How far you'll be able to get with this (and how quickly) will depend on how strict you are about not buying anything. You'll have trouble reaching above 100 or so if you won't buy anything at all -- nothing drops smithy hammers or plate molds. (Ok, admittedly I'm not absolutely sure about that.)

If you're willing to buy a smithy hammer and a file mold, you can do this:

Metal bits to 18 (ore from Gorge of King Xorbb, Lavastorm)

Make a file from a couple of the metal bits.

Metal rings to 40 (ore from same places)

Chain jointing to 95 (using the metal rings...and if you want to be really pathological, water flasks that drop in SRo)

Condensed arrowheads to 116 (condensed ice, flame or shadow from various Luclin zones)

Past that, you'll probably need to start buying chainmail patterns and metal bars to do ornate chain (you can make high quality ore from fine steel weapons, but the metal bars and patterns don't drop anywhere), and then medium quality ore and plate molds for fine plate (you can farm your own padding).

      Good luck on your quest!

          Opps not too clear

aye, good info. However, i still plan i purchaseing molds needed. Bascily im gona try to not purchase ore, water, or anything else. Patterns, Molds and necesary tools like chisel, smithy hammer i understand ill have to purchase. Got bout 2 stacks of metal bits so far but im only 10 and thats off of just converting rusty weapons. once i head to LS or Gorge ore should flow in faster hopefully. also got 3 stacks of thread for my padding im gona need and got a couple of LQ pelts but i plan to farm pelts with my druid, ore with shaman who is also 10 now. Since shaman has 100% wieght reduction summoned bags hes purfect for the ore task. As for water droping in SRO of of mad men i don't think that they drop water flasks, can't remember for sure, and don't think one can convert that water into water flasks like i am with foraged pods of water. You should all start a new charector and try this is a real gradification, but the charectors gota be non-tweak *all my new alts have always been non-tweaks*.

You are going to go nuts if you have to rely strictly on dropped water.

However, madmen in the Oasis and SRo drop water flasks.

Brewing foraged water would not be too bad. When I think of how often I destroy pods of water, it might be OK. (Not for me though. Vuli and Daleen are my buddies.)

                pod of water

I don't think you can use pod's of water, only water flasks.

You need to buy a bottle to combine 4 pods to make a flask. And you can chew up pods of water really fast if you try to use them as a water substitute.

I think this is a really cool idea, and you can certainly take it a long way-- I bet you can get a lot of mileage out of shadowscream line etc. (all steps of the quest)

But I agree with the others-- I don't think you should beat yourself up TOO much. I would save myself the combines and sell some of the garbage drops to pay for my water.

It is your playing time, though, and your goal sounds like fun, and if buying your water ruins that fun for you, I'd understand your choice.

I think it goes without saying... but you're a masochist right?

All kidding aside, that's a very admirable goal, but it's going to be an unbelievable amount of work.

I love working toward something when I play (and working toward the nebulous goal of "loot upgrades" never did it for me), so I think you may have some fun with your method.

If I remember correctly, Permafrost is a good place to go for ore too. I know the goblins there drop fine steel and I believe they have also dropped ore from time to time.

If you realy want to do smithing, the Val Shar quests are the way for you to go. If you just plan on using everyting you get as drops...you probably won't go far with smithing, but tailoring, brewing, baking (especialy baking), and pottery are naturals. Don't forget to do the unrefined ore quest in the Bazaar for cash.
Tailoring, why did I ever start tailoring? *sob*
