  • Midnight Stones from PoN - Nightmare Plate

3 midnight stones per temper. 4 Tempers per plate combine. Stones are extremely rare drop. This is worse then Tae Ew plate looking for pristine scales. Anybody know the *best* way to get these quickly. People want to sell for 500-1000, that's 6-12k simply for HALF of an attempt that can easily fail at 252 smithing. For the most part...impossible? to farm em on your own. Help appreciated.

Its not quite that bad, 3 stones -> 4 crushed stones. So you only need 3 stones to get enought dust for 4 tempers.

      Oh?

It said 3 stones + crushing them = 1 crushed stone.

Having made several pieces of Night Terror plate, I can attest to the fact that 3 midnight stones does indeed result in 4 crushed midnight stones. A nice little bonus considering the difficulty involved with getting the stones.

I've purchased the ones I have either off vendors or out of the bazaar. Although rumor mill has it that hobgoblins are a decent source of the stones, I can't confirm that.

          Define decent…

In the times I have camped hobgoblins, I usually see a bit less than one per hour. This is with a upper 50's group, so our pull rate wasn't the best though.

I've got 12 sitting on my trader that no one will buy at 250pp each.

And yes, 3 stones gives 4 crushed stones.

I merchant mine for all my stuff, so it's not really quick as such.

Thank you so much. I was so discouraged to think I needed 12 stones.

I have gotten about 50 of them the hard part for me is the stuff from the slag's. part vendor mining and part tradeing for other stuff. I can confirm 3 stones = 4 crushed

I'm finding it muchharder to find fetid slime for sale, managed to pick up quite a few midnight stones (normally about 150-200pp ea off merchants).

Folks seem to want 600+ for the fetid slime in the bazaar

                        blah

people charging over 250pp for a single tradeskill ingrediant, no matter how rare they are, are complete wankers. The drops are not usefull for anything but tradeskills. this is the reason why tradeskills are so hard and money-consuming. they should be happy to sell an ingrediant for 250pp, instead of the 10ishpp max a vendor would give. cool into on the stones and drop rates though. will check it out if i ever get skill 200+

A good place that I've found for the midnight stones is the stalker camp in PoN, thats IF you can get the camp. On SolRo its usually perma-camped 24/7. When I did have it for about 2 hours one night, I have about 4 midnight stones drop. Hope this helps.

                            couple notes

Remember, the midnight stones are NOT just for smithing.

1 midnight stone + 1 diamond of nightmares + 1 brick? of iron = the Iron Amulet of unseen horrors. This is a sweet necklace that is all all and sells for around 2500pp, at least on the nameless.

It is because of the jewelcraft that the prices are higher.

As for rates of acquisition. I just depleted my stock. I can confirm that the drop rate is fairly low. I usually get my from the Hobgoblin caves, and get 1-3 in a 2-4 hours night. So they are not common by any means....however, hunting with guildmates has the advantage of any midnight stone that drops "doesn't really drop"...i just keep them.

The nightstalkers do seem to drop them & gems in general more frequently.

As for the Fetid slime. In general, no one camps these. They are druids, with some delightful dots, and if you are not prepared for them, they will kill you and a partner. Because of this, even with the drop rate of fetid slime on them, it just isn't something people get. usually the ones killed are those that get agro'd as people are moving to the far side of the cliff / ravine.

The platemail isn't the greatest out there, however, I find it fairly decent as a dwarven smith that I can make good armor for my friends who are not dwarves.
