  • Can only ogres make the adamantite sheets?

I'm a troll and I've been collecting materials for a few pieces of blackened darkscale armor. I was hoping to make it easier for the gm smith's final combine by making the folded sheets and chain jointing myself. Is it possible for me to make that stuff? Or does everything involving adamantite require an ogre?

While DE also use Adamantite in their smithing, I would say your better off getting an Ogre to do the combines. The only similar named item I saw in the ogre recipie under cultural combines was a folded sheet of adamantite. While ogres use ogre swill, DE use Neriak nector. Even though the name is similar, there may actually be a difference. Same may be true for the jointing. But do you really want to take the chance on lost time/items? Other then that, looks like the recipies differ from DE, as you get into more cultural specific items, i.e. folded sheet of Oggok Adamantite vs. folded infused sheet of adamantite.

A piece of advice from someone who learned the hard way: Make sure you have a willing GM smith BEFORE you start collecting components.

I spent weeks collecting and preparing the materials for the final combines. I have enough for three attempts on each of the five cultural pieces I was looking to get. And the only ogre GM smith I can find on my server referred me to his "business" partner who handles all his sales. Who of course had no interest in trading components or accepting reasonable combine fees. Not enough profit. The worst thing is, a friend of mine (a GM smith himself) told me this might happen before I started and I disregarded his good advice. So do yourself a favor and find a smith first :-P

The sheets and folded sheets that the Dark Elves make are the same as the sheets and folded sheets the Ogres make. I stacked the two together once.

It is not uncommon for two or more recipes to result in the same thing. Many basic items made in smithing can also be made with pottery.

They are right about making sure you find an ogre smith that will actually do the final combines for you. The numbers of Ogre smiths are pretty low due to the competition with Human smiths. Our market is pretty much limited to Ogre and Troll Shadowknights (for which that armor is just unbelievably good, you pretty much have to go to Vex Thal before you start seeing better). Very low but urgent demand plus very low supply plus extremely high effort required to make product = very high prices.

You can make the folded velium sheets, but you can't combine the folded velium sheets with the enchanted adamantite.

            1) Only someone of the right race can use a cultural forge - so you would have to be an ogre to use the Oggok forge, or get an ogre to make them for you.

            2)

That may well work for the "old-style" cultural - pretty sure it does. But for the darkscale BD armor, when I combine folded sheet of velium, enchanted brick of adamantite, and celestial temper, I get a "folded sheet of oggok adamantite." I haven't asked my DE smith friends, but I expect that they get a different item in the Neriak forge for their combines.

Bottom line - find a smith who will combine for you and see what he wants. Probably tempers and such, but he is likely willing to do all the smithing combines as part of the process.

You can do any combines which do not require and ogok cultural forge to be done in.

If the combines can be done in a normal forge, you can do them, if they have to be done in a cultural forge then you can't.
