  • Collecting Essence of Sunlight

I know these thing drop (apperently very rarely) off Sand giants and Chromadracs. I have hunted them forever and have 2 to show for it and I refuse too buy them from vender. The giants seem to be too rare to make them worth camping and I have killed the chromadracs forever and they only droped 1 in 5 hrs of camping. Anyone have any secrets?? or any luck anywhere?? I will kiss your feet for info, even if your a oger or troll.

Join a Cleric of your guild in SkyFire who is collecting Shards for his/her Epic. Kill Chromadracs. When you have someone capable of Snare, you can get them easy: on incoming, Snare it and once snared immediatly Fear it. Kill asap.

The only flaw with the snare pull is that you will IMMEDIATELY have BoilBlood on you and 1 (or 2) buffs dispelled. Luckily, sometimes that dispell takes the BoilBlood off. =)

I recommend getting a ER item and pulling it like that...rooting it as soon as you can, dot/nuke it, re-root as necessary. However, while you will have a target rich environment, you will still find it as a rare drop.

When you say you will not buy it from a vendor, do you mean pay the 200pp in the Bazaar or the 5pp from the Dark Elves/Gypsies in Sro/Oasis? I often find them there.

        Ohhh

I never thought about checking the venders in S RO. An I wish they only cost 200pp in bazaar but they are more like 400pp minimum on my server karana.

        thx for info

Unfortunately, the drop rate of Essences off of Chromos is only about 1-6 to 1-8. As a magician, I kill them faster than most (barring necros) but they are *not* easy opponents by any means. The plus side is that they actually give exp, and you get to feel good by killing something cute

My thought here is similar to that on HQ ore. Your best bet to get this is to obtain it from others. Camp cash mobs in CC or OOT and simply buy the essence for the going rate (100-300p each on Brell, for instance) in the bazaar and from epic camping groups on your server. Merchant mining in Oasis and S Ro sometimes pays off as well.

              hi

i am on a new server, sebilis
when i was 10 or so and that higher people in the server was 20 something there were plenty of SG up in oasis(something like 12 SG up with Cazel)
now that there are higher lvl on the server there is rarely 1 or 2 SG up

              why?

because some mobs on the zone are PH for SG! WHICH of them!! thats the real question

i read on the net pumas are PH, i tried and i am not satisfied(1SG in 10 mins), i read undeads and madman are ph i tried also and got only 1 SG in 30 mins!

so if we find what mob is PH of SG we just have to get there with our traker car(i am 2 boxing paladin with druid) and kill all PH to get a maximum number of SG

anyone have an idea about what mob in the zone could be PH of SG?(it must be wandering mob so not a dervish, not a spectre or goblin, it stays: spiders, snakes, undeads, madmen, pumas an scarab or maybe all of them?? so massive killing is the way to go?)

They all are. It's just that when no one kills the Sand Giants, they all start to stack up.

I have played through 2 server start ups and the Sand Giant phenomenon is one of the fun parts! Watching them chase unfortunate dervish hunters to the borders of Freeport itself in North Ro is particularly fun.

Basically Sand Giants are big and hang out in otherwise low / teen level zones, so while a server is young and no one can kill them, they last a long time (and as stated above, start to stack up). Once folks reach the early 30s they become very killable, very fun and quite rewarding as you are passing through - and they dont last long at all.

I wish I knew these had value. I was (attempting) to camp the AC in SRo on Sunday, had 2 drop, one I sold to the vendor there, the other I let rot, since I thought it was from the quest that the Sand of Ro was for.

In 10 hours, I got 7 sand giants, and 2 Essence of Sunlight dropped. However, as a solo level 50 warrior I am not very effective at getting sand giants to spawn. When I doubled up with a druid and we started making a real dent on the mobs we were getting a much better spawn rate for the Sand Giants.

If you can get a nice AoE DD friend to help you and you wipe out all the mobs (just be careful not to pull the guy who looks like a desert madman but is actually a quest NPC. He was dark blue to me, but even with a druid backing me up we had only got him down by 1 bar of health before the druid went OOM and we decided to zone), you should get them to spawn at least twice an hour, if not more. Now, if only I could find the link with the rare spawn table (I have found links that claim to show the rare spawn table, but they seem to be incorrect, since some of those listed are so rare that I never see them, and others listed are so common that they are always up) then I could be a bit more targetted in my wholesale slaughter.

10 hours in SRo, 7 Sand Giants, 0 Ancient Cyclops

                      Bard kiting

As a 55 bard with Run3, I can solo chant-kite the chromodracs with ease. It isn't quick, as I don't have high-end drums, but with the Nostolo Tambourine it takes about 3-4 minutes (realtime) to kill one. They hit me continually with Blood Boil, but then almost immediately dispell it.

With Run3 I don't need to sing Selo's at all and can stay out of their melee reach. Every 3rd or 4th rotation in my twisting I swap out the Tambourine for my lute and sing a healing song. By the time the 'drac is running I'm almost full health and can just finish it off and go grab another. When blood boil isn't dispelled by the 'drac I sing Disenchanting Melody (level 22) and get rid of it myself.

I've averaged 3-4 Essences of Sunlight per hour doing this. Not a great ratio, but I was getting exp (about 1 percent AA per kill) and the stuff for a friend to make me a nice bracer.

                        essences

I've always found chromadracs are definetly the best choice if you want to get them fast. I hear faerie drakes in WL can drop them, too. Although, not sure if this is true, I can't ruin my CoV faction quite yet to find out.

Essences are a 1 in 8 drop of chromas in my experience. Really a pain getting them, too, as they constantly dispell my pets buffs, my tranq, and whatever other buffs i may have.

The way I see it though, small price to pay for armor so good. All the other parts are so extremely easy to find nowaday.

If you're really lucky, they'll do the GM event again where a huge SG army spawns in NRo or Oasis. Last time they did that I got many stacks of EoS all at once for very cheap.

But really... I just pay whatever it costs in the Bazaar. Time is money... if you want you can just farm Paineel guards (400pp per hour at lvl 49, when I did that 3 expansions ago, I could probably triple that amount now) or something like that and pay yourself back, and you'll still save time vs. farming EoS droppers.

                              re EoS

Best way of finding them....Vednro farming.

I vendor farm once a week min for EoS, Spiderling Silk, L/M/H skins/pelts, and maybe Mugs of Sea Foam. I also pick up other stuff to make it worth my time while I am at it. Research pages for spells I know I can sell. Even this may only yield 0-3 EoS.

I have spent over 4 hours in Sky on several farming events. I find IF you are lucky you get 1 EoS per 2-3 hours. The best way to kill chromos I found is to have a 61+ pet tank them while cleric heals pet and rest missle/spell it to death. Pets can even tank the high level chromos on North Side.

Basically this is INSANELY rare for something you need two of per attempt and is not ever going to be a trivial combine.
