Fairly rare spell, and Level 58 as well I think, is The Unspoken Word. Its a godsend when farming. But thats a few levels away !

Upheavel seems pretty good too. That tends to kill most, but yes I normally follow with Unspoken Word as its 1 sec cast time means the cleric I borrow can channel a few hits.
(Hard to cast a 5 sec spell when 30+ angry wolves/owlbears want a piece of you!).

I'm lucky I have access to a 60 cleric for pharming hollowshade.
Of course if Shaman got PBAE's I wouldn't too!!
Curse those 4-target max rains!

Hmm try a few with and without Geerlok equipped.
Also try a different trival item.

It's probably just coincidence.. BUT last time I got locked into my worst run ever, as soon as I equipped my geerlok I broke out of the rut and skilled up.
Maybe there is some evil at work that intentionally keeps people at a certain skill level for longer than is comfortable.........

Or maybe sacrifice a chicken/firstborn child to Baal? /shrug

You have taken up Smithing, so of course you are cursed!

Maybe even take up another skill, get that to 150, say like Brewing and then return to Smithing. Do the same with pottery etc. At least you see some skill ups , and it might be the break and encouragement you need...

Do that every now and then, give yourself a break from the Hell you are in. Even with my fortunate run (so far), I am only smithing about 3 days out of the week, then taking a weeks break for EQ altogether each time.


Upheaval, followed by The Unspoken Word, is what I do. I did The Unspoken Word then Upheaval when I first started in H.S, got my bum kicked by the 15 to 20 mobs left standing

Don't know if you are, but I know I am. I have been at 193 Skill since May of last year.

Before the June 8th I did about a dozen or so non-trivial combines of Fine Steel.

Since the June 8th patch, I have done over 300 combines of Enchanted/Imbued Mithril Plate (stopped counting at 312), a couple of dozen shadowscream combines, and about 6 Acrylia Plate combines. All with NO skillups.

In that same time, I have taking my Pottery, from 0 to 199 on an alt, my main has gone from 21 to 158 in Tailoring, an alt went from 0 to 235 in Fletching, my main went from 35 to 202 in Brewing (and is about to PL up to 248), and another alt went from 0 to 235 in Jewelcraft and 50 to 100 in Tinkering.

Funny that you posted this on Wednesday -- the same day that I did 161 combines of human cultural (with three breaks) and got two skillups. Were the majority of your combines done that day? I think the RNG on Xev was just out to lunch on Wednesday...

No actually these combines 188-191 were done over the course of about 3 weeks.

Camping for combines

I have found that the "camp out every 10 combines" actually does seem to work reasonably well. (Plus I can only farm just so many swirling substance at once).

And yes, I am tracking my progress -- just haven't made enough yet to make a full report.

Curses

I've been logging my progression since 189. I'm only 191 so far and although I dont have my log with me right now, the following is a rough estimate of what I've made to get those 2 skill points:

120 shadowscream
15 Rodcet Nife Imbued Field Plate
20 Field plate
4 acrylia chain

I can feel your pain. I did almost all of this going from 189 to 190, and only about 6 shadowscream to go from 190 to 191. Just 48 more to go till I'm done- <sigh>
