  • re human smithing

Just cause you farm items does not mean they are not free. I will not go into the details but the time spent for me to farm HQ ore is NO WHERE NEAR the cost of my time spent in what I can make just exping much less plat farming.

ANYONE who has actually thinks the Sea Tempers are easy to get has never spent an ENTIRE day (12 hours) fishing to get enough enough Saltwater Seaweed for 6 skill ups.

Mugs of Sea foam have been reported to me as having a decreased drop rate but I have not verified that myself.

Human High End smithing stuff is FOR SURE the hardest to make money off of out of human/dwarf/elf. It can really only be made by order since there are soo many different gods and there are so few people who need human high end armor. I know a human GM smith who sells more armor to ogres then he does to humans...and it is not even close like 2 ogres -1 human.

In comparision dwarve tempers are EASILY farmed. The market for dwarf high end armor is REALLY nice. Most clerics who are not HiE are dwarves and nost pallys are dwarves and dwarves wars prob come in 3rd to Ogres and Barbs.

I have no real clue how hard HiE armor tempers are to farm from personal experience but a elf smith tells me they are not near as hard as human tempers, either of them. I can also tell you the HiE GM smith makes 12 times the plat a human gm smith can make. HiE smiths have by far the best market of any smith imo.

This is just so funny I can't believe it!

I know of at least 6 high skill High Elven Smiths on Xegony... the market for Full Mithril & Blessed Full Mithril is so over-done it's not even funny.

I have a friend who is one of 3 Human Smiths who produce Heraldic Plate. Every once in awhile he makes some pieces for me to sell for him.

Luminant Heraldic sells within 2 days. Fierce Heraldic sells within 5 days... and both at 20% higher prices than what's being asked for Blessed Full Mithril & Underfoot Plate!

Now, surprisingly enough I can still sell some old-style High Elven Cultural pieces... and even get orders (due to word-of-mouth & friend-of-a-friend sales)... but Blessed Full Mithril? I only want to get my Smithing up so I can make it for myself.

First off, anything that drops from a mob is free. Time invested is play time. If you dont want to spend time then spend money. Oh ya, you have to spend time to make money to(mmmm...catch 22). Time does equal money but ease of farming is the difference. At my level gems in Seb are tough for me but plat/FS ore from hill giants is a breeze and free. Experience may be minimal but 70% are still light blue and 500pp an hour plus FS weapons is nice IMHO.

Second, 12 hours for 6 skill-ups in high end smithing isn't bad at all(Thats only 100 hours from 200-250 btw and would be nice if it worked out that way). Wether you farm plat, shadowscream components, acrylia or cultural components you are going to sink a lot of time into the project. I may only have a 200 skill so far but I did put 3 aa points into NTCM already and have stock piled 200 shrieking and wailing substances as well as 40 sea tempers and 6 royal tempers. I have read everything I can that pertains to smithing in EQ and am willing to put in the major effort required. I WILL join the ranks of the elite sometime soon. :P

And finally I wear Luminant Heraldic Breastplate, Greaves and Pauldrons as well as a Tae Ew Shield. I am constantly inspected and offered tens of thousands of plat for my equipment. There is a market on Quellious for this. However, I only did the subcombines for the items and the final combines where done by GM smiths listed here on the message boards so I wont sell them since they were kind enough to do the combines for a pittance(royal tempers/lizard tempers). They know who they are and again I say thanks friends.

No disrespect intended, but of all the cultural armor I think the biggest money-maker is human cultural. I easily could have spent all my game time doing nothing but this and still not kept up. We have the biggest market out there.

Anything that drops off a mob is income. Anything you then use in a combine is a cost. For example, you are doing acrylia armor and farm 10 blocks of acrylia in 2 hours. If blocks of acrylia are worth 120p in the bazaar you have made 1200p farming. Once you use those in a combine you have spent your 1200p.

Wether you should farm the acrylia yourself or buy it in the bazaar depends how much your time is worth. If you can make more than 1200p in 2 hours doing something other than farming acrylia it makes sense to do that instead and buy the acrylia.

All this doesnt matter to some people and they will still think anything they loot and use in a combine is free. They will be the ones who farm 10 blocks of acrylia. Others will be the ones farming BD's and Midnight Stones in PoN and buying 20 blocks of acrylia. Or root dot soloing golems in PoV and buying 80 blocks of acrylia when a metallic liquid drops. /shrug

            Re: re human smithing

Time and money are generally fungible - even more so in EQ than in real life. You want to stuff your face, but don't want to spend 20 minutes cooking and washing dishes? Stop at a fast food place on the way home or order a pizza. You pay extra for the food because you are paying for someone else's time to prepare it. You want more time off? Work less, get paid less; or get a second job to convert leisure time into money.

Same thing for EQ. You value your play time highly, you pay someone plat for components, i.e, you are buying their farming/prep time. Or if you don't want to part with your plat, farm yourself. Same type of economic decisions most people make in real life. Welcome to the virtual world of EQ.

As for the size of the market, lol - well, let's just say that your server sure has different demographics than Quellious then. I see more ogre and troll warriors running about in Fierce heraldic than I do ogre and troll Sks in any type of darkscale - just the fatty Fierce Heraldic portion of the human market exceeds my entire fatty market. (Yes, I know that you are comparing human, dwarf and HIE smithing; I'm just pointing out that humans have an opportunity to market cross-culturally to fatties, gnomes, and halflings that other races lack.)

As for the human warrior/cleric market vice the dorf pally/cleric market--well, again on Quellious the former exceeds the later by a wide margin (and then the humans get the fatty and shorty RZ warrior market as well). I would hazard a guess that if you don't have much of a market, it is either due to a saturation of human smiths peculiar to your server (early entry into the market/rep makes a HUGE difference), or else you need to review your marketing.

And if tempers are holding you back from making money - supply and demand, just like the real world. Start paying more for them.

BTW, this is from someone who only makes armor to order - so no real sympathy there if you consider that to be a hassle. I like to think of it as inventory management.
