  • Experimenting with metals... to the fletching end

OK, i figured this is a better place to post this than the fletching board.

Has anyone worked with the PoP only metals quite a bit? Anyone tried to make arrowshafts or arrowheads with them?

I can't seem to chisel my brick of ethereal energy down to a small brick, so it doesnt seem to react like normal metal. Any suggestions?

Many "unusual" metal types require a specific temper in order to work with them. For instance, anything you try to do with Velium will require a Coldain Velium Temper. Water just doesn't do the trick for these types of metals.

Perhaps your Etherials also require a special temper, though what that would be I do no know. :?

actually thre is already an ethereal temper discovered. But breaking bricks down never used to take water. so didnt think it would take temper.

making velium rings/studs has always required temper. So i assume that if you mold something with a pop temper it also requires it

Only thing that really confuses me is how you fail when using a smithing chissel on a block of material and end up with nothing. I mean HOW do you fail?

          Let's see....how do you fail?

It's been a long day at the forge. You have been working for what seems like hours over that unforgiving little portion of hell. As you put the Block (Brick) of ore in there, you drop the freaking chisle in them dang coals! You fish the (now cherry hot) lil sucker out burning your arm in the process. Now extreemly annoyed, you throw that red hot poker into the water hoping you didn't ruin the edge and get hot steamy water splashing on your face. Totally annoyed and bordering on a meltdown, you brush your arse up against the forge as you bend over to retrieve what is left of your chisle. Now you are pissed off. You are hot, covered in scorching water and you have burnt your arse and you won't be able to lie down on that side for a month. As you try to calm yourself, you grab your chisle and turn back to that little portion of hell only to notice the ore has half melted into the FREAKING coals! In a fit of outrageous anger, you go ninja on the ore, hacking it into little itty bitty tiny pieces and just let it fall and BURN IN HELL!!!!!!!

Yep, that is one way I would guess you could lose your ore in a failure.

So we've established you ned to use temper. Now back to the orignal question. Has anyone tried combinations of temper + metals to the end of creating arrowheads or arrowshafts? Either could lead to an advance ina rrows. Thanks =).

I will be trying myself but not sure that with 116 in smithing and no brewing I"Ll get far.

In answer to the original question.

Noone has posted on a success in this area, and noone has itemized failures. After looking through arrow compontent recipes and planar ore combines which have been confirmed, here's a compiled list of things to try.

Ethereal Energy -- Highly unlikely this produces items which are used in quests and never combined for any other purpose -- Brick of Ethereal Energy + arrow shaft mold + ethereal temper
-- There is no other known combine which leads to anything offering to be an arrow component. we already know: Brick + file + temper = rings, Brick + chisle + temper = DNC, Brick + temper = DNC, 2 Bricks + hammer + temper = sheet

All planar metals -- unlikely -- Brick + temper + arrowshaft mold
                . -- unlikely -- 1 Bits + temper + file
                . -- known -- Brick + chisle = bits, brick + file + temper = rings, 3 bits + file + temper = 2 studs, 2 bricks + hammer + temper = sheet
