  • OMG Sickles need a lot of sub-combines!

65 Shaman Barb smith (193) skill + geerlok.

Got tired of Shadowscream so I decided to do a small sickle run of 20 sickles (bye bye 6kpp or so).
FOOLISHLY decided to save some plats by making all the bits myself...

180 Celestial Essences, 60 mistletoe tempers, 60 blessed dusts of Tunare later I was ready to start!!

Might have to buy those in future rather than doing the real low-level subcombines.

Wonder how the 3 or 4 Tunare guild Druids will respond if I ask them to imbue 300 emerald for the "BIG" run I am planning /lol.

I think I will go back to Shadowscream again now that I have access to a 60 cleric with a PBAE so I can whack all the mobs in Hollowshade islands with one cast!
    (**** shaman 4-target AE rains.....)

So anyway.... OMG lots of sub-combines!
(note to mention making the hilt + blade + pommel combines!)

    yup..it sucks..hehe

and did you have any luck on your run of 20? i tried that at 196 with geerlok and made everything up to the final combines without fail, which i noticed, mentioned, and cursed myself.

0 for 20 sickles, no imps...gonna try some more at 210 skill but i cant see doing any more than 20 at a time...ugh.

I got 1 skill up (woot 194!) after 10 sickle combines.

I also made one mistletoe sickle $$ OMG was I surprised.

Last 10 combines gave me nothing. So my rate was 1/20.
Which is what you would expect at min 5% chance.

I failed a handful of sub-combines, like a hilt, pommel or two.

Going to get 2 or 3 groups of guildies to help me get the +10% smithing belt.
Last week I told a fellow-smith-in-training about Praesortium Bikum's belt and he went and got one!!!

Then I may well power-sickle to 200 so I can do Etheral Brick combines til 212.

Yeah its hard getting backpack space to do more than 20 at once with all that pop key crap + resist gear + situation gear etc etc.

Cant wait for LoY to go live so I can dump all that crap in the bank!!

I have been doing sickles from 235 to 241. Not in big batches though. When I catch a guildie tunare cleric/druid in downtime or waiting for someone/something, I ask them to do a stack for me. I end up going through about a stack of emeralds a night, with a skillup every couple days, and enough sickles produced to just sell out overnight in bazaar (though the one crazy 85% success-rate run took a while to get rid of).

I buy all my celestial essence though. I can't be bothered to do all that clicking. Fortunately there are a couple players on E'ci that put up 3-400 essence every night in bazaar.

I wouldnt really call doing the prep combines yourself foolish. It saves you a lot of plat, if you can even buy all the prep stuff in the quantities you want it. I recently skilled up from 155-182 making hilts/pommels/blades for the sickles. I usually buy celestial essence, but since I needed 45 stacks of it I made it myself. Also im thinking its 1.7p to make it, and it costs 5p in my bazaar.

I made up 16 stacks of emeralds figuring Id lose a stack turning them into tunare dust. My level 65 druid can do 2 stacks on 1 mana bar so that really doesnt take very long. Not nearly as long as I remember it taking when I was level 50 skilling up tailoring

I now have enough supplies for 80 final combines sitting on 2 mules and an alt with a skill of 188. I think ill try to save them till 210 at least =/

FYI I skilled up 0-188 in 2 days of off and on combines. Smithing to 188 is hands down easier than tailoring to 188. But I think 188-250 will be quite a bit harder than tailoring was. Or at least 188-210ish, once I can come close to breaking even on sickles Ill be skilling up fast.
