  • Charms

This was stolen from the LoY offical board:

And of course there are rumors that some of these charms only work with arms or armor created by the same weapon or armor smith, and that their magic grows stronger with every piece of the armor set the owner wears.
Doesn't this sort of sound like :

    A) smiths will be able to make charms
    b) smithed armors will now get tagged as by their owner (sorta like in UO)

please go ahead with the "stole my lucky charms" jokes

Gah, hope that doesn't mean I have to remake all the new armor I just made for my gnome.

Course, that also should mean tinkered charms! Rar!

Hmms, why do I have the feeling that it will be implemented in a way such that it only works on armour smithed after feb 24th, only works on new LOY smithed armours, or something else like that?

I'm thinking that any armour thats allready been made prolly doesn't have any data saying who made it.

Too bad too, cause there are a lot of people who I've made full suits for, of various types of armour. Wouldn't mind a nice charm as a result of my own suit of Underfoot either.

I'm expecting to see +% tradeskill mods on charms too.

        Well..

I think what they mean is that the charms stats will increase as your character wears more of a certain set of armor. It's kinda like how it worked in Diablo 2, if anyones played that game before

I like the concept, as a smith. Let's see how they implement it.

i tend to agree with shakoboy.

I bet it means you can get 'Donal's Charm of Mourning' or 'Tolan's Longcharm of the Glade' and so on. The website show 'a cloth charm' with the description that the charm grows in effectiveness the more pieces of cloth armor you wear.

I would *love* to have charms be keyed to items made by me though. wow.

That sounds like we are going to need a pet cleric and pet enchanter. In all probablility they will also require the smith to be versitile in JC so the whatever gem that gets set into a charm would also carry the same ID. Just call me an optimist

Rather than being keyed to eg wearing a full set of Donal's, that sounds quite explicitly like a "maker's mark" a la UO, something EQ has always lacked, and always HAD to lack, because of the item model. Now, if this is changing, this is HUGE. Sell someone 3 bits of armor, and if they have a nice enough Charm, they WILL come back to YOU for any other bits they want.

As far as already-existing armor goes, I think it is 50-50 between them just ignoring it, or having all already-existing pieces have a 'blank' maker's mark, which any smith can (one-time) mark.

Just to add a little bit of pessimism to the post:

And of course there are rumors that some of these charms only work with arms or armor created by the same weapon or armor smith, and that their magic grows stronger with every piece of the armor set the owner wears.
note the use of the word rumour... so if they cant be bothered or cant get it to work then it wont be included

And if it is by the maker, then I doubt it will work retrospectively, unless they have been tagging items with the makers name allready and not told us...

But otherwise it seems like a nice idea.

Its programmiticly near impossible to do it on a makers basis. Every Full Mithril Bracer in the game is the same, and on your char it just say "you have item 17423 on right wrist. IF they tried to make it by maker, then every location would need its # and its "maker #". That is a Major change to the way that item data is stored. UO could do it b/c there every item was stored as a collection of stats (this item fits wrist, has 25 ac, has 5 sv fire, etc...) , not as an index number (#17423).

I think we'll see it based on armor sets. Black Alloy Charm, Ornate Chain, Full Mithril, Donal's, etc...
