  • Leather Padding Prices

If I was to farm and make leather paddings, what is a fair price? I don't see people selling them in the bazaar. I do see spiderling silks going for 3-5 plat, and threads for 6-10 (I sell them at 6 personally). From what I remember about non-ruined pets is that they aren't exactly common.

I would start at 30pp each and see if you have any takers. Don't advertise much though, people will hop on the bandwagon. If 30pp each doesn't work, try 25, 20, etc. I wouldn't go below 15 though, but that is just me. It isn't worth my time at that point, unless I got the LQ rockhopper hides while merchant mining.

On Prexus, there are a lot of people that are selling it. I made easily 5k off of it, mostly because I would undercut the other sellers by several plat. Managed to drive the price down thankfully, now it is in the 15-20pp range usually, from 50+ each.

Do I think it's a fair price? I wouldn't pay it, but a lot of people did at 20 and 25 pp each. Selling padding in the bazaar is catering to people that don't want to hunt the stuff up themselves. I take advantage of lazy people like that in a heartbeat, and if I am being lazy about hunting some components, I expect the same kind of treatment.

On my server paddings usually sell in bazaar between 20-30pp apiece. Lately I've seen the majority of them at 20pp though.

Whether you think this is a fair price depends on your definition of "fair," obviously they're a lot easier to make than that price would collect, but for people who want to blow through to 188 smithing in a single session, you're providing them a very valuable service by making a large quantity of paddings available...

i sell at 20 when i have an abundance and im usually the lowest there..i have seen them as high as 75p EACH...OMG you have to be..well retarded (sorry hehe) to pay that much for A padding. the standard before the bazaar was 2-400 per stack, 20p is 400p a stack, fair in my eyes, plus being lowest usually gets another padding merchant to run over and buy em out real quick..instant sale =p

Padding for me sells quickly at 25pp.

I have been known to buy bazaar out of lq pelts that are 5pp or below, and buy spiderling silks for 3pp each.... so spend 11pp or so per .

Great way to make an extra buck without leaving bazaar.

If you're making a fierce heraldic BP you're not going to sweat 75pp per padding versus 20pp per padding. Unfortunately, that sets the price for the FS skillers as well.

LOL - easy to make and easy to get the raw materials are two different animals - spend a few hours farming padding and then realise that you've only got a few stacks of the stuff and suddenly 20+ plat seems very reasonable price to sell for and pay.

Perhaps this is not lazy but just smart.

I could have hunted creatures for "free" rusty weapon drops to sharpen in the forge to up my skill but considering how fast I can make pp doing other things in comparison, I just did banded and ignored sharpening. At this time my leather paddings only cost me time because I can farm them about as fast as I can earn the cash to pay for them. Mostly I just make padding from all the left over pelts I get while hunting rockhoppers for tailoring. The opportunity costs for the leather padding are limited to the time it takes me to squish the little bitty spiders.

Lazy is not equal to buying in the Bazaar.

                Lazy == begging.

I never pay for leather paddings, but I can put a price on them, 20 plat. Whenever I'm headed past the bazaar if I'm under 10 stacks of padding in the bank, I buy up every usable pelt in the bazaar for 10 plat or less, then all the spiderling silk for 5 or less. I suppose if I saw people actually selling the paddings for 20 I'd buy them, but they never seem to be for sale when I'm on.

                    farming for leather padding

This is what I tell my friends that are after raising tailoring/smithing by farming for *ling silks/LQ pelts/leather padding.

                    For spiderling silk:
Gfay-from orc lift to orc hill.
EC-near hut that has 4 guards hunt along path and a little north.
#1 Everfrost-3 igloos, kill every spiderling, wolf and bear for mucho spiderlings silk and save ever pelt better than ruined. If you have room save polar bear pelts for quest and sell back armor.

                    For shadeling silk:
Shadeweavers Thicket-between south wall and the camp, at least it used to be covered with worms, I couldnt keep up with killing them all. Got about 8 stacks an hour until a few months ago.

                    For LQ pelts:
#1 Marus Seru-hands down the very best place to level or farm the Greyhoppers. You get either greyhopper hide or LQ pelt 90% of the time. Making greyhopper armor will also take you to 88 in tailoring and all you need are patterns.

For most any tailoring pelts or silks:
Misty Thicket-if you are a tracker you will be bus, track the newbie side for spiderlings, about 6-8 then respawn after 3 minutes, go to other side of wall and track bears and spiders til yo see spiderlings on track again. I gained many MQ and HQ bear pelts within a few hours plus the silks and buffing up newbies that helped me farm stuff.

As to the selling price I think what I have seen in the Bazaar is rather expensive, but I suggest:
                    spiderling silk 2pp per stack
                    spider silk 2pp per stack
                    LQ pelts 20pp per stack
                    Leather padding 40pp per stack
(I think these prices are fair from the advice I give above)
Fyredealer Bunnwarmer(Woodelf Druid), Kayniene Kompanion (Iksar SK), Makrodeth Fifthorseman(Erudite Necro), Ratatat Buffbeotch (Vah Shir Shaman), Rygorz Mortizz(Darkelf Mage), Skulbraker Mobskinner (Vah Shir Warrior), Zraptor Zrapture (Highelf Cleric), Zspicey (Highelf Enchanter).

I'm currently in the cultural/shadowscream/acrylia phase, so I consume very little padding, but I still acquire a good chunk of it (farming & vendormining). I've sold MANY stacks for 30pp per padding - lowered my prices during one slump to 22pp each I think, but that was only about 3 stacks.

Nice, easy profit, esp if you don't actually do the farming yourself (or for the padding ingredients )

                        re Leather padding

On TP prices seem to be less than most other servers...prob cause it is the newest normal server (if you can say 2.5 years is new).

                        Leather padding goes for 15-20pp

                        Spiderling silk 2-3pp

And Pelts/skins fo quality anywhere from 2-10pp

I never buy spiderling silk...it is soo easy to farm I tell n00bs who beg for money to go get it for plat. I can get prob 2-4 stacks per 20 mins.

Pelts/skins of quality...I have given up on farming these...at level 62 it is just sooo much easier to make plat and buy them. Good for the economy I guess.

Since I have mastered the silk farming I will never buy leather padding. Patient shopping can get me all the pelts/skins I need and I can farm silk like mad.

Wish you were on my server - I could make quite a profit buying you out at those prices. D

There is no such thing as "fair". "Fair Market" is an oxymoron. Markets are not fair - they are brutal because the seller and buyer have conflicting goals. People are free to ask as little as they please for their goods, but don't be suprised when the majority try to sell for as much as they can.

About EF, i'm a barbarian, so i collect the ruined also. As i see newbie apear in zone, i check them out, if they are naked, i make tattered armor out of the ruined and give the nakid noob a full set of armor. usually as payment for the armor i ask for spiderling silk (hey, he/she is hunting spiderlings anyways for xp). So for the cost of a patern for a full set (maybe more than a plat but less than 2p) i get a STACK of spiderling silk from a greatfull newbie.

now, about those prices you quoted, if those are correct PER STACK, they are excellent prices, buy them all up. on my server your prices are very close PER ITEM.

I found that by armoring newbies, you get a bunch of folks greatfull, that will usually result in 1 or 2 tells a day saying they a stack of something that you told them you would take as payment. Since i'm a multi tradeskiller, i usually give them a list off stuff that drop in the newbies zone that i'd take as payment. I even get tells for folks i made cheap ass armor for 3 months ago when they were less than 10, now they in mid 30's (debt long been paid in full) bringing me stuff. It really enhances the SOCIAL aspect of the game AND keep in mind, these are all potential customers that might eventually want something that you could make for a substancial fee (cultural/highend).

I've even made a full set of banded armor (smithing) which cost me about 45p and took 2HQ bear pelts (which drop in newbie area) as payment. I ran up halas ramp, bought 2 patterns (mere copper), ran to Black Buroow and sold 2 handmade back packs within 1 minute after anouncing /ooc wts handmade packpacks for sale 65p. so i turned 45p into 1 very happy 200ac newbie, 1-2 happy travelers that probably just got their first weight reduc pack and still came out with a 95p profit, and 3 potential future customers.

                              To further explain

                              Padwen's quote
"There is no such thing as "fair". "Fair Market" is an oxymoron. Markets are not fair - they are brutal because the seller and buyer have conflicting goals. People are free to ask as little as they please for their goods, but don't be suprised when the majority try to sell for as much as they can."

You gotta put yourself in my mind as I was writing. When I said fair price I did not say anything about a market. Since I was writing and I know what I meant I will repeat...those prices are fair to me and will not bother me at all to sell them or buy them at those prices because at low levels I gained xp during, in my high levels I just nuked the forest and picked thru what I wanted. There is no reason this fantasy land has to be screw and get screwed like real life. Another reason I will not play a human, what kinda fantasy is that?

I think sir0die explains the way I like to play also. I also save all the white pelts for both quests and when I am full I give a shout to first come first serve under level 10, then will walk them thru the quests in Halas, and after they bank I will buff them up for further fun. Believe me after that I get all the silks and pelts I had asked for.

Of course I have gotten a few newbies show up and I just tell them "I am after pelts and silk only feel free to take the skellies and gnolls I will watch your back". Too many times I have been ignored after buffing them and they keep killing the spiders, so I send in my pet everytime. I like farming with my Mage the best...hehehe.

When I first started playing people would shout for help with food and water, or hand me down weapons...and believe it or not we got them so I try to do the same. Except now they literally follow you around and try to make a buck. Everytime I go back to Gfay and buff people it never fails to get the question if I have any extra plat. I guess they dont realize that buffs dont last forever and they should get out there and earn some plat with what they just got.

I started playing January 2001 and have yet to pass level 49 on any character (on any server with either account), but I love scrounging for tradeskill stuff and trying new characters with their cultural stuff. Im not after getting to 65 as fast as I can nor making a buck on Ebay but Im having fun.

/Zraptor sighs and steps off soapbox.
