Well I was talking to my wife last night about tradeskill trophies. I was trying to encourage her to attempt one but she said that the potential cost wasn't worth the reward given her current finances. So I told her, hey you get a free 10 slot, 100% WR bag. She said I can buy one of those without risking failure, I wish it had a useful effect.
Thats when it hit me.
Would it be so overwhelmingly unbalanced if smiths had a quest, racially dependent, for a hammer like this:
(dwarven example)
Enchanted Smithing Hammer of Kaladim
LORE ITEM MAGIC ITEM NO DROP
Str: +10 Wis: +10 Int: +10 Cha: +50
Effect: Enchant: Brellium
Blacksmithing: +5%
Weight: 0.1
Classes: All Classes
Races: Dwarf
Make the quest require you to turn in your GM Smithing Hammer plus do some other stuff. It should be an enjoyable quest but not overly difficult encounter wise. I'm thinking something like the Divine Might Quest for the Paladin spell Divine Might, which basically would cost some platinum(possibly quite a bit) and entail a lot of running around to collect things.
This would take a big burden off guild enchanters, and really ease the pain high end smiths feel when they want to do a combine. I really enjoy owning my GM hammer, and the free bag that came with it, but I think this proposal would be much more useful in the long run.
