  • Ballpark Smithing Cost

How much does it cost in plat to get smithing to 200? How about 240? Im thinking about starting but would like to know how much I'll have to invest (a ballpark number).

  • #2
To get to 188, probably around 4kpp or 5kpp. To get from 188 to 200, probably in the 15kpp to 20kpp range, but much, much lower if you go with shadowcream, but then you are talking about weeks /played to get to 200. To get from 200 to 240, real cheap with shadowscream, much more expensive if you go with cultural/acrylia (200pp per attempt on average, around 200kpp) but if you want to go fast (sickles) you are looking at 350kpp with 1 skill up in 25 attempts.

the golden rule in tradeskilling "the more time invested (vendor diving, farming), the cheaper it costs".

If speed is your thing, expect to spend alot of Plat, if cost is your thing, you'll be doing alot of farming.

so how much does it cost?

well, 250 in smithing over say...........2 years may cost ya 100k.
250 in 3 nights, might cost ya 1,000k.

            250 in three nights 400-600k

Ya - if you want to make 250 in three nights (three long nights, still a lot of clicking), expect about 400-600k, maybe a tad more.

Critical to how fast you can do it will be the availability of imbued emeralds in your servers bazaar (figure 1300-1400 or so) and mistletoe tempers. If you have to make the mistletoe tempers yourself, add another few nights for the extra clicking.

To get from 21 to 188 I'm not overly sure, I was at around 170 when the switch on trivials was made, so I don't really know the costs of extensive Chain and Plate smithings for skill ups.

To get from 188 to 201 cost me on a rough guess, 15,000pp (I did alot of Imbued armors, which are expensive as a dwarf). Probably 30% Acrylia, 30% Shadowscream, and 40% Cultural.

To get from 201 to 240, about 90% sickles, a mix of SS, Acrylia, and Cultural, cost me around 337,000pp, probably closer to 360k when you add in the costs of Acrylia and Cultural and various precombine failures.

It also took me less than 2 weeks off and on to get to around 170, and over 6 months to get from there to 240. I wasn't smithing hard, but was probably averaging 20 combines a week. Towards the end, once I got into the 210 range I was doing combines of 20 every other day or so.

Try 1-250 = 30 days + 500k and then yer in the ballpark.

                    /sigh

Everytime I read posts in the smithing section, I get more and more depressed. Shall I ever realize my dream of being a GM Smith?

getting from 21 to 160ish was around 500pp or so... But after that you will fail more than succed and your skill ups will slow way down... costing me 450pp per 20 combines and only getting one - three skill ups out of 20. and thats at around 160ish, im sure above 160 theskill ups get slower.. meaning more plat invested... ya i would guess 600K or more to get over a skill of 200.
so if your a GM dont sell your good short! you have payed out your arse to get there!
I hate seeing ppl say " but the items only cost 400pp to make it, why are you selling ot for 3k?" I say- well Mr. frugal skill up your smithing skills and make it your self if you think youll save $$.....

                      Enjoy!

If you try fine plate around a skill of 160-ish, your success rate is very high. Easily 15+ out of 20 on bracers. Since they sell back at almost cost value (moreso if you farm your padding), from 160 to 188 you lose very little pp. I definitely lost less than 1k total between these two levels. However, after 188, it's just painful farming or painful costs in any direction.

cost is relative to the resources at your disposal. Those being Time, Level, friends (willing to help), bank space and starting cash because you'll be buying at least something for a while.

i spent about 200p getting to 115..thats mostly just making a ton of metal bits and making scalers, fillet knives and such, then maxing out on banded to 115.

from there its starting on fine plate early or farming fine steel by the metric ton to convert.
If you have a level 50+ char, with a few friends who can AE, and a completely empty character or 2, you can AE mistmoore castle for a LOT of fine steel, just need a fast puller and a mule or 2 standing by to load up with stuff. In addition to the fine steel they also drop a lot of essense of moonlight (which is why i was there and discovered this) and bronze armor, which makes a bit of cash and will even out any losses on this part.
Follow standard path to 188, then get those same friends and ae, ae, ae and ae some more in hollowshade. load up on substances, whip up humming orbs and stock em on those empty mules, and fill up a ton of bank space with more substances. (you might wanna wait for legacy of ykesha for the added space) and make shadowscream by the boatload. The worst part is the no rent shadows, but if you can clear the island in twilight, after a few lovely hours of mind numbing farming, you should be set for 40-50 combines or more, depending on how lucky you are.

SO..cost you ask..10k if you have time and the other resources, and are cheap (like me!), maybe less i havent been keeping track and i had gotten to 196 before the fine plate nerfage.

No rent solution - Carry all of your shadows with you and have a friend whack you in the arena in the bazaar (What else are friends for?). Your corpse will not decay for a while and you can loot the shadows off of it at your leisure. This suggestion was made elsewhere by Lilosh I think. It was also recommended to me on my server.
