  • Cultural smithing question

Okay, I might have (probably did?) missed this in my searching of the forums, but I've looked and not found anything yet.

I've got a lvl 71 troll smith, 300 skill + trophy. I'm trying to make an Elegant Nightkeeper Cuirass. I'm getting a message that reads "This seems correct, but something is wrong. Perhaps you need to know something more in order to combine this".

Can someone please tell me what it is I'm missing here? Do I need to be level 75 to try the combine? Is there a quest step in the process for these combines I don't know about? I've made lower level armor in this progression line and wanted to crank out some Elegant for my warrior... any advice would be appreciated, thanks!

This combine cannot be done in "experiment" mode. You must purchase the Elegant Troll armor smithing recipe book, scribe the recipe book, and then use the tradeskill UI to search for the item you wish to make.

Hmm, you are talking about the armor books you have to quest for? Or a different book entirely?

In order to craft the armor, you must have completed the quests for the books for the patterns/molds and then you must purchase the recipe books. The recipe books are simply that, a book that tells you how to make the combine, what components to use, and it has a scribe button. You scribe it and then all the recipes will be saved into your tradeskill UI. Open the tradeskill UI and search for them and you can then find the recipe you want and click combine. You cannot use experiment mode where you put 1 of each item in the container to try and learn the recipe with these armor sets.

          Thank you, very much!

Okay, have found my vendor and all, thank you!

Of course, now I have to wait until I'm lvl 75 apparently, as the recipie isn't visible on the merchant. /sigh Ah well, it'll come in time.

If I recall, the armor is supposed to be craftable if you are within 5 levels of the required level of the armor.

Elegant... did you check all those vendors? I want to say it is on a separate one from the rest of the smithing.

                Okay, have found my error.

The merchant I wanted was a cultural discoveries historian, NOT a cultural smithing historian.

Man, I'm gonna have to stay more abreast of my tradeskills. It's been several years since I last tinkered with them and they have changed a fair bit.

And... I've made 2 out of the 3 attempts I slotted to make my trollie warrior his new breastplate.

                Thanks much, again!!

I noticed that this morning the dscoeveries historian does not show anything to me. Is that a bug or some questing is required?
