  • Smithing Start

I've think i've read enough and asked enought to finish out my smithing.

For thouse Newbes or Lowbers out there here are a few tips on how i started.

Uper smithing is Expensive (over 188) not the lower levels.

like most skills Smithing can be rased along with leveling and the amount of plat you accumlate corsoponds to your smithing cost. Example.

the first 21 skill ups can be done at lvl's 1-6 with Gold peaces. and for a starting charature that can benifit from a few Platinum peaces Smithing can help. Expecilly if you a good Trader with other players, or plan on using other trade skills in the long run.

I'll start post a guild for the low starters out there. and maybe one for the Cheap umbers

    Stage one

Everyone says start on Bonding or Studs
    Get Some sharpening stones.
Get Some Flasks of water what ever you can afford.

    Do a bit of Farming.
Kill the Spiders and Skeletions in your zone. Save this loot and sell to players. Save all Pelts, Never sell to vendors! more on this later.

Find the Forge in your Starting town.
Find the Ore vendor in your Starting town.
Do some fraction what ever is avilabe for you level.
Do any newbe quest that can rase your fraction with your locals. (this will help not just with trade skills but with everything.)

Now with the Sharpening Stones and Water flasks do a bit of hunting. Take what ever money you make off mobs and Loot (besides Bone chips, Pelts and Silks) and Buy as many Small peaces of ore you can (they stack) watching the cost and amount

Now take what ever rusty weapons you've gotten form skeletins or what ever else in your newbe zone. Place in forge with Stones, combind. Do this will all you rusty weapons. when your done hopfully your have a Skill up or.

Now take your Tarnished weapon place in forge with flask of water and combind. maybe some skill ups maybe some ore.

Take 3 Small peaces of ore Flask of water combind. Small Bric of ore

Sell you Small bricks of ore to merchent. Wham Copper for Gold. once you skill gets close to 16 this will turn a profit. Do this till Small Bricks of ore are trival. by lvl 6 you'll have a smithing of 31 and ability to make profit(hey arent most other skill's 30 ish at lvl 6? well see where this goes.)

It depends on how much of a hurry you are to hit 250!

For me the expensive part was hitting 188 (cost in the region of 7k), after 188 I made old cultural to sell in the bazaar, it doesn't sell fast but it does sell (anything from 3 to 8 sets a week) for a reasonable profit. After one month I have reached 204 skill but more importantly I am more than 100k into profit with my smithing, and that is with buying all my dropped components in the bazaar.

The funny part is I started my smithing so I could equipe my dwarf pally with the uber underfoot armor and whilst I am still not of a high enough smithing level to make the underfoot (tried for a bracer recently and took me 12 attempts before I was successful) I have at least been able to afford to buy the most needed pieces solely from my smithing ventures

Pfft. Any race that can shop in East/North Freeport can get to 115 and even make a profit doing so. The further you go,the more time it'll take,but...

Go to NFP. Buy a pack full of 3cp sharpening stones. Go fill up on water flasks, too.

Go to Hallard's resales in EFP. Start sharpening broadswords. These sell back at a profit. Repeat until trivial. Start on rusty scythes next. These don't do quite as well, but you'll break even-do more swords when you run low on cash. You're now at 25 skill.

Now,start back on broadswords. Continue the cycle. Interspace it with the slightly smaller weapons (see the conversion chart here on EQTrader's smithing section) and render these into small pieces of ore (go for the two-piece ones, like rapiers). Take some excess tarnished broadswords. Make yourself small bricks of ore, too. Make yourself a file,it should be trivial at this point. Make yourself steel boning. It'll trivial at 37. Start making field point arrowheads next with the bits. You're now hitting 41 when these become trivial.

Keep making bits. You're cycling now to craft lanterns-all the components are in East Freeport save the sharpening stones to sharpen weapons to make ore. This will get you to 68. Then dairy spoons. You now have hit 74. Filleting knives. You just hit 76.

Cycle again for cash. Get yourself a smithy hammer. Now,start picking up rusty twohanded swords. Get them sharpened and melt them down into large bricks of ore. Make metal rings from the large bricks. Make chain jointing from the rings until trival. Congratulations. You're now at skill 95.

If you want to continue this cycle, you can switch back to making small bricks of ore instead, using broadswords you've sharpened and melted down. Hammer these into sheets. At 95,you can now easily start two-sheet banded pieces. Given enough time, you can grind onwards with the process until you finish up banded mail and are a master of 115 skill.

Not bad for a pile of rusty weapons and a lot of work,eh?
