I'd say human is the most popular, but you need to be an ogre shaman for the gem imbues for the armour that everyone wants.

Dwarf, well, dwarves just never appealed to me.

High elf, you have the advantage of being Tunare for imbued emeralds, but you need foraged items to skill up. Lots of foraged items. No high elves can forage.

Dark elf, the imbues are expensive, but you can outfit the legions of DE shadowknights (and twinks) running around. And dark elves see at night.

      Character Suggestion

If you aren't already set on the idea of making a cleric, I'd consider a human Enchanter. I know for most smiths, pinning down an enchanter to enchant your ore, etc is a real PITA.

Also, you can buy most imbued gems in the bazaar fairly easily, so if you are looking for a perfect smith, I'd go with a Human Enchanter.

The best cultural smith cleric race?

You're looking to roll lots of things into one, that makes the choice hard. That is is to be an alt simplifies things quite a bit.

I think I missed what your main is, but that is key. Why:

        1. You main will determine what you can get, he is bound to be your farmer.

        2. When you make nice pieces you will want to give them to your main! Imagine making blue diamond cultural and not being able to put it on your main!

        Other thoughts and comments.

        Humans have the largest market.

Dwarves have it easy on temper componets, but have the darn ruby to deal with.

High Elves have to cope with morning dew.

Erudites make nice cultural, but have a very limited market. The race just isn't played that much.

I'm not touching on the evil races because I don't know enough about them.

Putting the issue of your main aside, I would choose Dwarf. The choice is really dependant on what your main goal is.

After spending more then a RL year making and following cultural armor, I would add this. Although the armor stats vary by race, you will sell most of it to Palidans, clerics and Bards (plate). It is great to make a well ballanced warrior, but it not str heavy and is a bit AC light.

As far as the comment concerning elven chain, if you include druids in casters, your correct. If not you need to look at who is buying it and wearing it. I have been selling elven cain for about 14 RL months, yes that goes back before the May 2002 changes and before UP, and 9 ot of 10 sells are to druids!

if you imbue your plate for the bazaar it sells slow but high, if you don't imbue you chain it will be merchant fodder. My mage is the only int caster I've ever seen wearing it. Mage is perhaps the only int class that would want it. Many mages would trade a few int points for a bit of AC.

All cultural chain is discarded for planes armor in time. The plate can pass this ordeal on a cleric, but nowhere else. Etheral Mist, planes armor for good aligned clerics sux. Only the BP and Legs have any appeal.

        Just my 2 cp

BTW, make and level another alt, a chanter. lol
