Iksar basic smithing

Hi everyone.

I am recently returned to EQ and have decided to develop smithing skills with my Iksar shaman.

However I am having trouble getting started, I have trained smithing to 5 and I am placing 2 small pieces of ore and 1 flask of bloodwater in the forge which is the first recipe in the book I purchased from the vendor. When I hit combine however, I am told I cannot combine these materials in this container.

I really wanted to do this without resorting to guides or forums but I am completley stuck.

I guess its probably something really daft or simple I am missing

And while I am here I guess I may as well ask if the smithing hammers I ahve seen for sale affect your skills/success rate in any way if equipped.

Don't use bloodwater use plain old water.

Iksar smiths have to trudge over to West Cabilis and buy water from Lybar (she's in the merchant area near the Necro guild.)

Smithing hammers are just a utensil needed for certail recipies. There are other items that affect smithing with a Geerlok Automated Hammer being the most common one.

I had thought of the water thing but dismissed it as I checked every vendor in east cab for plain water and found none.

I mean what sensible game company would create a crafting area and make 1 of the materials for a beginner unavailable close by ? :roll:
