  • I know this may sound stoopid....

... but, im about to go from making metal bits and tarnished weapons, to making files and other tools and utensils.... one question i have is... and this is the stoopid part...

If im going to be making field point arrow heads which require:

metal bits, water, file (yields 20, stackable)

do I lose the file or is it returned? And what about all the other tools that I will be using? Will they vanish as well?

This also applies to some baking as well... muffin tins, skewers etc.... are all these utensils lost when attempting a combine?

I looked in the FAQ, but couldnt find anything there.

Tools used are always returned, you lose molds ore and water (or temper depending on recipie) wether you suceed or fail. But yes, files, hammer, ect.. all returned sucess or failure.

      Some quest combines

Some quest combines do eat your tools. Most of the coldain baking recipes eat your utensils on success. The vah shir pottery quests used to eat your quill set on failure (gaaaaaaaaaah). But 99% of the combines out there do not eat hammers, files, pots, pans, tins, smokers, chisels, sculpting tools, etc. etc.

        Except bread tins

Bread tins CAN be consumed if you critical-fail baking bread. I had it happen once.

However, in all my combines I have never had the forge eat my tools -- except once. I LD'd during a combine and my smithing hammer was gone when I returned. However, I am not sure whether the forge was responsible, if it fell into the LD ether, or if it was stolen by a passing PC.

Thanks for the help guys.... i was just a little worried about having to make new tools for every combine... but seeing as though im only just starting out in smithing (52), i didnt want to have to keep making files, scalers, and other things..... But will have to watch out on the crititcal failures... or at least be prepared to lose the item if a critical happens....

But as always, you guys (and gals!) are always helpful, and kind to stoopid newbies like me...
