skilling up smithing

hey just started to try to skill up smithing on my baby SK (up to 54 with free quests, and have one the beginer trophy) - anyone have any advice on a skill up path?

Buy the ore in bazaar cheaper than most any other skill-up path.

You may want to make Boot Templates (2 ore pieces) or Chestguard Templates (3 ore pieces) on some of the higher ores before switching, depending on what the next ore costs you.

What does this mean exactly though? Are you saying make any Fulginate Armor..Rubicite Armor etc or are you making something else with the ore for skillups?

I have made 500+ non-trivial rubicite and indium items and I have gained 18 points of skill. Are there supposed to be this many non skillups?

Jankomatic: Use the ore to make the templates for cultural. Scribe the scrolls found on the vendors near the Library ent in PoK, then do a search in the Forge window for the ore name such as fulginate, then select a recipe to make such as fulginate wrist template.

Not sure what a non skillup is exactly, but below about a 240 skill you can expect around 5-9 skill ups per 100 attempts. Below a 100 skill, you may get as many as 40-50 skill ups per 100 attempts. The lower your skill is, the more skill ups per 100 attempts you will get. As your skill goes up, the number of skill ups per 100 attempts will go down, until you are only getting 1-3 skill ups per 100 attempts above 285 skill.

Also, dont just use tungsten for the final run to 300. You will quite often find cobalt, titanium and tantalum ores for sale very cheap in the bazaar, tho the cost of the coal will be greater. Do some comparison shopping and you can save yourself some plat.
