Not to be funny but "118 thats's it?"

I have had at least 4 runs of over 200 combines for a skill up. Usually you get 2 to 3 in sucession when you finally get one so I stopped worring about it.

130 combines on shadowscream - no skillups

I have never had a skill up on shadowscream armour - not ever - not once - not even a hint of one. Mind you I have done 30 attempts at Mistletoe Cutting Sickle and over 40 attempts at Acrylia Plate armour pieces as well (I actually got a skill up on the acrylia - woot). I make that 200 combines for 1 skillup.

I am seriously wondering if the statement about str being considered for smithing is wrong. I have

      str 255
      wis 65
      int 57

The only skill up since 191 I got after getting insane desperation and paying for a tranquility buff ( )

I had 140 Wailing substances on a mule
Ok, i give up. How did you get them from your mule to your smith?

at Blacksmithing (243) +15% why are you doing skillup runs?
I can easily understand wanting to max out your skill, but why not take the skillups as they come, while doing combines for profit? Instead of farming for a skillup run, start taking orders for armor. If you're *really* intent on getting those 7 points, offer to do combines for free.

Farm shrieking substances with the mule and make them into humming orbs on the mule, then transfer them over.

I have done 164 combines of the shadowscream armor and recieved 7 skill-ups. I dislike farming swirling shadows so am fishing seaweed in OoT now. In 2 days I have gotten enough components for 37 tempers plus an extra stack of seafoams. I'm feel that sitting and fishing is preferrable to running around trying to collect no rent items. I don't know how skill-ups with field plate/imbued field plate will be but I'm hoping its similar to shadowscream.

What I find alarming about this comment is that you freely accept that as ok. Sorry but nearly 100 hours of lost time with 0 (you cant even sell SS armor really) to show for it is unacceptable for a GAME, you know, something you do to ENJOY your freetime.

The more we lay down and take this the more they will just keep it as status quo.

Correct. This way I am at least getting moderate EXP on a mule while killing greens to my mains.

The difference is. . . If the first person continues to enjoy smithing by not worrying over it, and is doing it for the enjoyment rather than powerskilling to be ubah and make ph4t pl4tz. . . then he's the one getting his money's worth out of the game, no matter how long it takes him to reach 250.

Woot! 3 skill-ups in 30 combines of field plate helms this morning. Had to go to work so couldn't farm up more spiderling silk for padding. I'll get those tonight since I have 33 sea tempers left and am hoping to hit 200 tonight.
I will be concentrating on field plate armor for a few more days to see how it compares to shadowscream. My initial impression is very good :P

Edit: The 3 skill-ups occured in the first 24 attempts. No increases with last 6 attempts. Done with a strength of 255 and wisdom of 127.
