Is it possible for some recipes to have a higher fail rate than others? I'm 300 smithing with a 12% mod, so 336 skill. I also have smithing mastery 3. Yet i see a fairly high fail rate when i do Black Gold Inlay combines for friends. It's not just a few attempts i'm using as my base either. It's probably around 100 attempts so far and i've seen about a 33% fail rate.

    Thanks,
    Atern

My failure rate has similar with the same stats, although a much smaller sample, 6 failures in 16 attempts (one salvage).

Its definitely possible for specific recipes to have a higher fail rate than predicted. I don't think anyone has noticed the trend in inlays before (probably because the components are too rare for anyone to get a decent sample size), but the old cultural armor recipes, parchments for mechanoinstructions, and Epicthieck's Power Belt are examples that spring to mind.

Inlays do have a hardcoded success cap (more failures than normal) and this did come up when the hardcaps on the cultural were discussed and eventually removed.

Sadly not all hardcaps were removed and this is one of those examples.
