  • I'm so {darn} confused.

OK. I have got my smithing up to around 161. I've played EQ for a very long time, but until recently, I just didn't have much time to do anything other than raid, and occasionally quest. Didn't really have alot of time for tradeskills.

So, now that I have my Dwarf Warrior(lvl 80) to 161 I figured I'd start the DON cultural in order to eventually be able to make my own Elegant, and sublime symbols as well as to have more recipes in order to skill up. I have a few alts that I could throw the resulting items on as well.

I talk to yar shiverbow, and get after a quick trip to unrest and Crushbone, I have my Ancestral Dwarven Armor Book.

Now, I know the quests have changed some what, but after a couple hours of searching, I can't find how exactly they have changed. How do I get the Other books? The only tasks I can get from him is for the symbols ... I can find NOTHING on the armors, and everytime I talk to him and say "armor" he gives me the same response, indicating for me to gather the same items from unrest and crushbone that I've allready done.

Any help on what is the matter here would be really appreciated as the quest is not the same as it was. I Searched recipes, and now see both SIMPLE and ORNATE, but nothing more. SHould I see the others now with the changes(Even though I couldn't make them yet), or am I missing something.

    PLEASE HELP.

You need to go to just outside the PoK library and buy all the new cultural books and scribe them. Then the recipies for your skill lvl will show up in the forge UI.At 161 skill you will not see the higher lvl skill required books however.

The venodrs will sell you what you need. liek the above post says I too had alot of trouble with this. The augs will ony become available once you reach certain levels. Something I found of great help is in the UI section for tradeskills. I skilled up from 156 to 300 on ore/templates. Figure put what ore you can craft for your level then type it into search)main page) and it will bring up the template you can make,I used chain then plate collars as only uses one ore then as i got close to maxing it out found recipe that used 2.

Hopefully someone will fix/writeup the new system so peeps like us dont go crazy, climb on top fo bank in PoK and shoot people.

The books you have, "Ancestral Dwarven Armor" and the symbol books are used in a combine to create the molds/patterns for the armor/symbols.

There are recipe books as Zaltak and Besazzlerr mentioned that will give you the recipes in the tradeskill UI you can search for.

Templates are the skill up path. They do not require those quested books that you found from the NPC in Kaladim. However, the templates are then used with the mold from the book you have to make armor.

Ok .. another question. I see my symbol's in the UI, but I Still do NOT see the armors. I've got my Ancestral book, and bought every smithing book I have access to from the guys in the library in PoK ... and scribed the ones that gave me the option.

I'm at 195 now, so I would think I would have access to the simple armors in the least.

          Any Ideas?

Will they ONLY show up in the UI when using cultural forge in Kaladim?

OK. One more question. Smithing is up to 252, went the template route, duo'd blob one in VT and got my smithing gloves off there.

Now, just like clock work as I've skilled up, I can make the different teirs of cultural armors. Well, now that I've reached 252 raw skill I would have thought elaborate book would have been available to me from the vendor, but it's not there.

Does it require a higher skill? Does it have to be quested still?

What about elegant, is it still quested?

ANy help would be greatly appreciated.

              Thanks

                Elaborate book is at 275.

                Elegant armor is at 300.

They both use the same armor mold/pattern that you get from the Ancestral Book of <race> Armor.

Intricate armor will take you to 290s and rhenium templates for the armor or you can look at the quest for the Sacred symbol book from your hometown. The symbols can take you to 300. (Leg - 300, Chest - 306). These only require 1 rhenium ore and 1 bonded loam. Depending on your ability to get these by farming/buying will determine what is the better route to go.

Tungsten ore used in excellent templates will also become an option soon.

You can make the higher templates without the books. You just have to experiment.

One final question. I've been sticking mostly with the "dark blues" and "Yellow" recipes.

Can you skill up off of "red" recipes?

Reason Im asking is that I'm at one of those weird skill lvl's where the next recipe that takes a "single" ore is red, all others I need 2 or more to skill up.

You can skill up on anything over your skill level, but you have a better chance of gaining skill ups on sucessful combines, so you are better doing things you are likely to suceed on. The other thing to consider is that a trophy won't gain xp from combines more than 100 skill points above your un-adjusted skill level.

Actually, if your primary stat (wis, int; or str for smithing) is over 400, it makes the chance of a skill up on a failure the same as that on a success.

So the only benefit to doing non-trivial combines closer to your skill is to succeed to have a product to sell to help offset your costs.

Since I have the smithing gloves off blob1 in VT(+15% smithing), is there any benefit of even doing the trohpy?

Free clicky 100% bags. The prestige of having one of the premier tradeskill items. A distinct, possibly unique (not sure) graphic for an item in your primary or secondary slot. That's just the start.
