There is another 15% smithing mod that drops off blob 1 in Vex Thal but it is most defiantly not soloable. Last time I was at the blob I was level 65 with a handful of AA and mostly bazaar gear. I went down in like 3 rounds after landing too many dots and the MT got flung out of melee range.

I think I know the mob you are refering too, but name is too long and funky looking to remember, but drops Guantlets of Dark Embers, if this is what you're talking about. Only draw back with that item is, if I remember correctly, it is only melee useable.
