  • Ogre cultural armor

I'm ogre shaman (follower of Rallos Zek), and getting close to 200 smithing (196 atm), with a big intention to become GM smith one day ...

But the question I've got looking at cultural armor that i can make - who the heck will need it if ogres/trolls of Rallos Zek can wear Fierce Heraldic armor (Human Quenos cultural) which is way better by stats???

Does it mean i can forget about making cultural? (we've got few human GM smits on server)... And what VI was thinking of when letting humans do Rallos armor that fits everyone from GNM to OGR? ... Sad... Is there anything cultural which is worth making? Was going to make some plat on cultural ... /cry

    <table><tr><td></td><td>Fierce Heraldic</td><td>Crimson Darkscale</td></tr><tr><td>Visor</td><td>AC 12, AGI 5, HP 60</td><td>AC 14, AGI 5, HP 45, mana 15</td></tr><tr><td>Collar</td><td>AC 14, AGI 5, HP 50</td><td>AC 16, AGI 5, HP 40, mana 10</td></tr><td>Breastplate</td><td>breastplate AC 51, STR 10, STA 5, DEX 5, HP 80 </td><td>AC 53, STR 10, STA 10, hp 60, mana 20</td></tr><tr><td>Greaves</td><td>AC 40, DEX 5, STA 5, HP 80</td><td>AC 42, STR 10, STA 5, HP 60, mana 20</td></tr></table>

The only real difference, stat-wise, is the small tradeoff of a few HP for mana (to fit in the Shadowknights of War). All of the pieces are higher AC than Fierce Heraldic, as well as having more stamina on some pieces.

And what VI was thinking of when letting humans do Rallos armor that fits everyone from GNM to OGR?
...sorry, folks, but I fully agree with that statement <img src="http://www.boomspeed.com/sinuuyanea/dcrazz.gif" alt="Gee, THANKS SoE ">

By NO means should you quit: Ogre Cultural, or any non-human culture for that matter, has a market; granted, it wont be as simple to sell it, but Ogres have an easier temper to gather and prepare. Ogres and Trolls, at least on Quellious, seem to prefer Darkscale for it's higher AC, Stamina and, for the Shadowknights, mana boost.

All cultural armors have a market, and it's larger than you think.

Its pretty small actually. Intelligent warriors will generally choose fierce heraldic. Your market is shadowknights and cazic thule worshiping warriors. You may get the occasional order for a shaman piece or two. Do a /who all ogre/troll shad to get an idea of who your customers are. On my server, its often a pitifully small number (10 or less) of ogres/trolls frm level 1-65. perhaps other servers have more fatties, but drinal stopped making em about over a year ago.

        Ogre Smithing? Worth it IMO.

Quellious has got two "public" ogre GM smiths.

For me, it was definitely worth it as Garshok was a plate class that couldn't wear the human stuff (a shadowknight) and i didn't want to suffer through the whole ToV armor thing.

While I thought that the market would be very small - and it is - Garshok has made more than enough to pay for his own red suit and get some nice toys besides. He actually does about as much business as Zopharr does. Granted, not much now, but still the occasional order.

I'd say if there aren't any ogre smiths on your server - or, if you want to wear a full or near-full set of the chain - go for it. At 200, you have an idea what it will be like getting to 225-230 or so.

If you don't want to wear the smithed ogre chain yourself, are just in it for the money, and there is another ogre smith on your server - don't bother, the big money in the limited cultural market has already been made for the most part.

95th Priest of Brell, Povar-Quellious, 300 Dwarven Grand Master Smith, 300 all skills
(holds his 15% smithing trophy in his off hand and pretends to dual-wield - and hopes the Holy Dirt of Brell he's carried for twelve years will have a use in the new expansion)

        Rishathra
95th Shaman of Inny, Povar-Quellious, 300 Troll Grand Master Smith
(got so tired of looking for a troll smith for armor that I made one)

          Ogre Cultural

There is no mentionable market for Crimson Darkscale Armour; the Warriors ALL go for Fierce Heraldic. This leaves a handful of Rallos-SKs as customers.
There is a small market for Fulvous Darkscale, but its mainly old characters from players who nowadays would choose Rallos as Deity instead of CT.
The market for Blackened Darkscale is also very tiny; only a handful of Trolls who will buy it. (Havent sold one piece of Blackened over the last 2 months)
There WOULD be a big market for non-imbued cultural armour for agnostics; but recipes for that do not exist.
Forget about selling Darksplint (Chain); there is too much comparable gear flooding the bazaar. Maybe with the extension of the bracelets.

My sales on cultural have trickled down more and more over the last weeks; my best customers nowadays are rich people who want to get fast and good gear for their twinks.

About Ogre armor and Heraldic armor.

I have Ogre SK alt who worships Rallos Zek. I thought about getting Heraldic for him, but doh... all stats i've seen suggest that Ogre SK / RZ cant wear any form of Heraldic!! Even when Ogre Wars can and other SKs... just sounds so stupid.

Gotta go for Ogre Cultural i think :P

                Ogre and culture

There are few ogre players compaired to the rest of the races. Of them, some are simply power players (stats=character), others just love being an ogre.

Most things ogres get are rather shabby compared to what other races get. I often think that Verant really forgot that oggok even existed. I still love my ogre and still make the armor, not for the PP, but for the idea of it.

                  what are you complaining about?

Hey, at least ogres have the option of making there own armor, which is more than trolls get -- I still can't understand why they would have ogres make armor that only trolls can wear (in the case of the Blackened Darksplint for Inny Shamans).

I can say that in my case I made Ogre SK cause I wanted to have a big ugly brute. Well... another reason is not getting stunned from front hitting mobs. Ogre Warrior would have been best choice for taking up hits but I wanted a character that can go to places himself too. SK can make himself invisible, he can FD, he can do lots of things. And in my mind Ogre has lots of RP factor! (Also when play a caster you want to hack something once in a while)

                      Too much Smithing

I wanted to make it to CT yesterday to try and get some more Tae Ew Blood before patch, but never made it:

                      - was about to go and got an order for two more pieces from someone in one of the more powerful guilds who had already gotten three peices so far.

                      - got an order for four more pieces from someone in one of the server's "uber" guilds who had already gotten a few other pieces (kind of neat to see a 65 SK probably flagged for third and fourth tier planes putting on stuff you make)

                      - was fielding questions from an Inny troll looking at getting most of a set

                      - was also busy replacing chain (both Pop and CT) which had sold off my bazaar mule

                      - have sold about half a set of various Darkscale armors over the last 3-4 days

Granted, it's been unusually busy for the past few days smithing-wise, but if you are a GM smith with a good rep, you won't starve (well...except perhaps as an iksar smith). I've actually been selling more ogre than dwarven cultural these last few months.

True, you don't have as big a market as a human cultural smith, but a market is there. And the PoP and CT armors are non-race specific -- more niche's you can fill.

If you want to play an ogre and want to smith, have at it!
