  • As I understand,

those of us wishing to smith past 188 were not given any help at all by the expansion? Looks like tailoring got a little help, but its quite expensive and you have to forage AND know a researcher. This is sooo frustrating for a casual player such as myself. Hopefully, there is more recipes that have not been discovered, but I am not holding my breath.

Anyone seriously considering taking smithing past 188 isn't a casual player... THEY ARE INSANE!

Yes I think we're all hoping that a new recipie or quest pops up in LoY!

Or that XTC drops a big, phat +15% hammer.

I don't think anyone that wants to take smithing past 188 should be considered insane. As a somewhat casual player, I can farm (or buy outright) the components to skill up from merchants for any other tradeskill. Why NOT smithing?

I said that because it's taken me 3 or 4 weeks to get from 188 to 205.
That's just 17 pts. (Fitted in around Raiding/work/GF/etc).
        Mostly on Shadowscream.

One I got the Hollowshade war going the way I wanted it wasn't so bad.
Then luckily I got access to a Cleric with the good PBAE's, which also helped.

In there I also did a run of 20 sickles (1 skill up - OMG so much clicking!!!).
And did 14 attempts at Tundra Helanic (1 skill up!) which netted me a Bracer and Mask which I gave to the guy who helped me pharm Hollowshade stuff and who supplied me with the BD's.

I also went 1/5 on Tae Ew shields which I gave to a friend who helped me
        pharm the iksar blood.

Now it's actually been fun making nice gear for people, so its not so bad.
What's bad is the ONLY exp I've gained lately IS FROM RAIDS!

Heh and the one night I went to bed early, XTC dropped TWO +15% smithing hammers and I missed out! /ROFL.

It's still fun though - just a sh1t-load of work!

            Hmmm...

I was at a skill of 192 (I think, there-abouts) when the Trivials for Smithing were changed.

            I'm at a skill of 207 now.

Part of that is my own fault for being a very casual player...
Part of that is my own fault for playing my Paladin much more often...
Part of that is the general fault of Acrylia Plate prices dropping so much...

Well Smithing has been designed, so that its not a convenient skill to get to 250, thats my belief.

              Thereby, those that do get to 250 skill, are going to be those that can;

              a) Put in large blocks of time each day/week.

              b) Those that only have say 10 - 15 hours a week, and will have to have single minded determination.

              c) The very rich.

              d) The very fortuanate in getting the 15percent hammer, which will reduce the amount of time getting to 250 (be it real or calculated).

              e) And be, or have access to someone of a considerable level (50 plus at least).

Smithing is at such a fine balance at the moment, imo, any minor change could reduce it to a "convenient" level like brewing. Again imo, thats the last thing I want this skill to become.

Also remember you will have the ability to make Skyshine Quest quality items. These quest armours, are not trivial for many players to get. Therefore the ability to manufacture them should not be as well. Thats my belief.

Since I have most likely moved into the unpopular category, just to make sure I am entrenched there...

I also believe that Verant have gotten the Windstone drops just right. The rarity is needed, as the quality of the armour is Hate/Fear (in regards to Armour Class).

You know, with the amount of miner NPCs / the new LoY Mine zone(forget it's name) and the nice armory(tons of mining NPCs) in Dulak Harbor, you would figure there would be some new type of armor / weapons forged in this new "Extension".

Oh well, back to Shadow Scream, I went from 205-213 last night on 100 combines so hopefully there isnt too much more pain in my future.
