Hello all fellow forge masters!
Long time reader of the boards and felt the responsibility to post about my smithing experiences in the elemental planes. This info is from my own experience and is by no means complete, however I hope that it can at least help someone.
First of all my opinions. Earth, Water and Air legendary plate/chain.... in order of 'doability I rank them:
Water
Earth
Fire
Air
Each elemental plain drops rare components of smithing and ultra rares for smithing. You will have not too much problem getting the metals however getting the stuff for the tempers is a *&^@# pain in the you know where! I am part of a large successful raiding guild and have access to all the drops we receive in order to possibly make something nice for someone. The problem is the drops are way way way rare for certain places.
Air...we killed the avatars and a TON of mobs on about 4 raids and we have ABSOLUTELY NO gaseous condesate or fog fragments (did I mention you need 3 fog fragments to make 4 crushed fog fragments?)! .
Earth...our off raid hours XP zone.... 2 raids and hundreds of hours of XP groups net a big fat ONE chip of granite (also need 3 chips to make 4 crushed hahaha yay) and 3 vials of liquified earth
Water.. the only and I mean ONLY elemental plane balanced in my opinion in terms of drops and dificulty. We have raided this zone I think 5 times or so and managed to score 8 soapstones (have 8 powdered soapstones for tempers) however the shimmering fish gils are pretty rare they are at least droping. Soapstones drop off the light greenFrog-looking guys and the shimmering fish gills drop off the little Faydedar looking guys. What did I make? Failed 1 plate bracer and made 2 chain bracers.
If they fix the other plins drops at least to the rarity of water then it wont be so bad....ever wonder why there are so few earth, fire, air armor made? Because either we have not found the magical missing mob that drops the rare component needed or it is just plain broken. After having kiled bazilions of mobs in each location however I am of the opinion that the drop rate needs to be tweaked a bit. (or even added in the first place).
