  • my smithing data from 1-187

i kept track of costs and combines n junk, just because i was curious... char is a level 27 dwarf cleric (if that matters) i did all smithing in PoK, CHA was 100 for buying/selling, STR was 150, and WIS was 212 (except for last 2 runs, had kei, 236 wis) and the 'total cost' is after selling sucesses back to NPC vendors

skill 1-21 - bought from class trainer

    skill 21-92 - banded gorgets, 136 combines, 46 sucesses, total cost 102p

skill 92-116 - condensed arrowheads, 71 combines, 51 sucesses, farmed materials, no cost =)

skill 116-126 - electrum ornate bracer, 40 combines, 30 sucesses, total cost 958p

skill 126-135 - gold ornate bracer, 14 combines, 12 sucesses, total cost 297p

skill 135-138 - gold ornate coif, 29 combines, 24 sucesses, total cost -295p (was a profit because i used leftover rings from the previous runs)

skill 138-156 - this was a weird run.. did fine plate bracers first, 60 combines, 40 sucesses, 14 skillups.. then was advised to switch to fine plate collars..20 combines, 15 sucesses, 2 skillups, then switched back to bracers.. 15 combines, 10 sucesses, 2 skillups.. total cost 539p

skill 156-163 - fine plate bracer, 58 combines, 51 sucesses, total cost 222p

skill 163-178 - fine plate bracer, 20 combines, 18 skillups, 2 sucesses.. then switched to fine plate helm 47 combines, 45 sucesses, 13 skillups (best smithing run EVAH!) total cost 493p (had kei for this run, 236 wis)

skill 178-187 - fine plate breastplate, 65 combines, 61 sucesses, total cost 341p.. stopped at 187 because i ran out of folded sheets and didnt wanna make more.. (had kei for this run also, 236 wis)

grand total cost was 2657p (probably about 40p spent on water alone, yeesh) anyway.. farming your own padding seems to help with costs A LOT.. would probably be double that cost if i paid the gougers in the bazaar.. ive been told i "got lucky" with my skillup ratio.. *shrug* oh well, if this helps someone in any way, then great.. currently weighing the options of agonizing over shadowscream, or chaining a chanter to a rock in kaladim to make me a million enchanted folded sheets of brellium...

Nice runs. Im getting ready to start smithing to my shawl trivial (187) im currently at 128. Farming my HQ rings also . Im going to do ornate till about 135~ then im going to hit fine plate. Where was the best place for to farm spiderling silk? The pelts are pretty easy to farm but silk isnt atleast for me. But i havent newbie vendor mined yet for them going to finish ornate before i start that =)

Marus Seru is the best place for LQ pelts. Usually 4 out of 5 hoppers drop LQ.

For the threads, I did Shadoweaver's Thicket. Kill the lesser shades and silk worms.

        Re

When doing the shawl myself, I only had 179 smithing skill at the time and did not fail on any combines. Just seemed faster for me to try the armor, versus the amount of time it would have taken me to gain those last 9 points (yes i am quite the impatient one). I guess if you failed and had to get some more velium hound fur, it would hurt. Perhaps I got lucky though /shrug

oh best place i have found to farm spiderling silks is everfrost. I hear feerott is good too.
