Ore drops for low levels?

Hey all,
I know that there are references for ore drops and for cultural items, but things like tin ore, thalium ore, and silvril ore are dropping like gangbusters from lowbie mobs in gloomingdeep and newbie zones, but there are no recipes that use them on EQTraders. Anyone have a hint as to what these are used for? Are they good for starting smithing?
