I just started looking into this stuff to do.

In your opinion, is this out of proportion with risk, difficulty, and rareness?

In the first tier you have Nightmare armor.

Nightmare mephit blood really isnt that rare, but since it is waaaay back in the caves to get, that makes it difficult to make.
Presently someone is selling nightmare mephit blood for 3k each (9)!!

The midnight stones drop semi rarely I suppose, but are easier to get from mobs before dropping off the cliff.

The times I have seen sandstorm pearls for sale, they are going from 1-2k each.
I have never seen drops of pure rain for sale.
I just happened to have just one held for me by guildmate.

I am BoT flagged and have yet to see either hurricane temper supplies drop.
They make it hard enough that you need 3 sandstorm pearls just to think of making one attempt.

Drops of pure rain have been annoying for me too. Think I'm gonna bite the bullet and start camping there for exp =/

armor just sucks b/c it has required 61 so to get full stats you must be 61, but by 61 so many will have cultural(bd kind) or like SS, kael, thurg quest armor which is basically on par with Hurricane Plate. Well, i dont know anything about the chain, but plate is so disappointing for the effort. Only piece that catches my eye is the gauntlets, but this from a dwarf cultural point of view. also the ratio of pearls to drops is so screwed up. I've gotten about 60 pearls compared to maybe 20 drops. Since 3 pearls = 4 powdered ones...like 80 to 20. This is from many people saving me drops, too many hours put out for the reward of making the junk.

What's even more annoying about the Hurricane platemail is that there is another item which drops in BoT which is very similar in stats and even has a lower level requirement to use...... Thanks VI for making us compete with dropped items from the same places as the temper materials are.

my suggestion is save your precious tempers for the chain bps you can get twice the number of attempts for something that sells as well if not better than the plate bp. I just wish they would think about drops vs smithed items when creating zones.

I cannot comment on the plate since I've played chain classes most of my 3+ years in EQ but I can say that the Hurricane Chain is very nice. SS and Kael are still marginally better but only marginally.

However, I agree that the drop rates seem absurdly low.

bah, i've been starting to gather some stuff to make the hurricane plate, but until i read this post i hadn't noticed the recommended level... it sucks

a recommended level on tradeskill gear? our entire market since people stopped actually wearing banded has been twinks

on par with kael/ss? in a month that stuff will be 3 expansions outdated

Personally I have had no problem with the sandstorm pearls. I've got a stack of them already powdered and over a stack of pearls waiting to be powdered. The sandstorm pearls don't seem to be that common of a drop but people seem to camp that wings named most commonly so I've got pleanty. I've got enough of the electrified copper too altho I haven't seen any drop in Bot that i can recall.

The problem is the drops of pure rain. They seem to be just as rare or rarer a drop than the standstorm pearls and people don't like to camp those giants probably at least in part due to the ae they have. There also isn't the nice safe spot by the named that there is for the earth wing. The 2 of these seem to combine for alot less drops. So far I've gotten 4 drops of pure rain and made one set of arms and holding the 2 other drops of pure rain right now.

As far as the quality goes it really depends. The plate isn't bad and is comparable to some cultural. Ralos plate or barb tribunal plate for example does have more hps. Unimbued cultural, if you have that option, on the other hand seems to be a bit worse all around. For the chain side of things tho things seem to be a bit better. The ac is alot better on the hurricane chain compaired with DB cultural. Personally I upgraded my arms from kael arms, to DB cultural and then to hurricane chain. It isn't a huge upgrade but it is a nice upgrade none the less.

Hurricane Chain...

Drop of pure rain is the bottleneck I am running into also. I have enough of the other items, but w/o the rain it isn't any good atm.

I have made one pair of chain legs and chain sleeves. A guild group was doing the ocean mobs and only gathered 3 last night. Really not very condusive to creating armor. :/

I am glad my brewing is 208 or so and I have a gearlock, I would have hated to see one of the only 6 rain I have had go bye bye at the brewing stage.

As far as selling this stuff, no way I would do it atm. Rain is just too rare to warrant selling it instead of giving it to guildies.

Plate is low on my priority list due to its consuming more tempers. And I feel the Hurricane chain is in many locations (like arms) better than the Velious chain.

Aye Drops of pure rain.

Only made the BP so far and in that I was lucky since I had managed to farm (with the help of friends) just enough drops of pure rain to make the BP..

I like the BP, but no way, no how, will I be able to sell it for what the investment in time and effort was.

It would be even less possible if I were to buy the drops, for while they are very rare in Bazaar on Dro, they are so ridiculously priced that I personally won't buy any.. I'm a mean so and so that way.

Looking to make the plate arms, for myself, not to sell.

Still have SS, and while the 50 HParn nice for raiding:
A) They are Purple
B) Int and mana are critical to me whan I MA/Pull in XP groups.

If Dyed armor is not a royal pain, I'll prolly go that route instead, for something like Vindi boot grey (Black is going to be too rich for my blood I can tell)
