  • Iksar Blood

Since one of my toons is currently leveling in CT and getting a fair amount of Tae Ew Blood Vial, I decided to look into making Tae Ew stuff to supplement the endless farming for Shadowscream skillups. While researching the scale temper I noticed a discrepancy between the drops listed here and the ones on Allakhazam. It brought up a few questions.

    1. What loot table is correct? Do the Ikkies in Lake Of Ill Omen drop blood? I know for certain that they are rare if they do.

    2. Do other Ikkies, like the bandits in WW drop them? If so they are super rare there too, I have killed many without 1 drop.

    3. Why the rarity on Iksar Blood? Isn’t the rare item for Tae Ew supposed to be the vials from CT? There are plenty of Iksar out there, they just don’t seem to bleed.

    4. Where IS the best place to farm Iksar Blood?

If I remember correctly, the only two zones that drop iksar blood are Dalnir and Old Sebilis. The Iksar Necromancers in OS have the highest drop rate, but there are only four, which means your kill rate is a bit reduced.

As to why it is rare, and why it is used to make the Lizard Blood Temper, those are questions that can only be answered by the tradeskill dev who was working when both of the recipes were introduced. It unfortunately just happens to be so. Don't forget that you can also use two blood vials and a vial of distilled mana to make Distilled Lizard Blood, which has recipes that have the same trivial rate.

As to why it's so rare, I have a GUESS. Back when the culturals came out, Iksar smithed armor was one of the easiest. All the components for the basic armor were storebought. Making the imbued armor took the scale temper, which took Iksar blood. I'm guessing that they wanted the temper to be the hard part of the imbued armor to make.

Yep, all part of the central plan of Tradeskills: There Ain't No Such Thing As Free Combines; or shorten it to TANSTAFC.

Either you pay large ammounts of plat for merchant bought skillup paths or spend the large ammounts of time to raid or farm for MOB drops. Thems yer two options. Pick your poison.

              Iksar Blood

I've found Iksar blood isn't too rare. Stay away from Kunark when hunting it. Kunark has a serious vampire epidemic and very few mobs have any blood.

LoY is the place for Iskar Blood - Hint: Dulak's Harbor, a certain boat

In Dulak's harbor, the ore refinery, there are 2 iksars. Cartdrivers or such. There is also an occasional iksar guard patrolling. These can drop the blood.

After you are finished in the refinery, go down to the docks to the boat named Windscorn. There are two iksars on the pier out to the boat. They can both drop the blood.

Clear the Windscorn of mobs. Any iksar on the boat can drop the bloods. These mobs also drop other sellables and jewels.

About every 2.5 hours, Captain Bloodblade will spawn on the deck of the Windscorn. He seems to be timed, not triggered by anything. He will be non-targetable. Around him spawn a number of DEs and iksars. These iksars will also drop the bloods.

Capt. Bloodblade sends a zone wide emote when he pops. He sends the crew that pops with him 1-3 at a time to the town to get supplies. They walk down the pier and into the town, then path back to the ship. If you can take them all, just aggro one of them when they are gathered around him, drag them back a bit, kill them (it will take a while they have decent hps for little mobs), and loot. They will assist aggro if they are close enough to see you attacking one of their buddies, but they will not proximity aggro you if you are just standing there. They will just walk on by, unlike the regular Windscorn crew. They will not assist other mobs in the zone - just Capt. Bloodblade's special crew.

Once they are all dead, Capt Bloodblade will shout at you and become targetable/killable. You can kill him then if you want - he's got an aggro range - He always drops some quest stuff and a caster shoulder thats worth a little tribute.

If you wait outside the boat for his iksar crew, they can be pulled off one by one but you must kill them before one of the DE wanders back to him or they all despawn, including Capt Bloodblade.

This was a little bonus run of iksars for me. I always got a couple of extra bloods out of this mini ring event.

Between clearing refinery, clearing Windscorn, and whacking Capt Bloodblade... you could come up with a decent amount of Iksar bloods, as well as sellables, gems etc for your time.

                  Word,

I've beeen doing Tae Ew armor for quite a bit now. I would highly recomment doing the Distilled Lizard Blood. x2 Tae Ew Blood vial and 1 distilled mana plus your mold and 3 sheet metal. Distilled mana very easily optained in Bazaar and almost at cost. I buy around 275-285 plat per and if im farming the blood myself its pretty cheap in the way of high end smithing anyway. I also get a better streak of skill ups on the Tae Ew than I do the Steppes ore but im still at 251 smithing. Chasing around Iksar Bloods never was fruitful for me. I also managed to pick up the occasional Flawless Tae Ew Hide and Pristine Scales for bazaaring which go for 20k on my server.

I echo this sentiment. I've had quite a good run from 244 to 261 so far on Tae Ew Chain Tunics. I even have a guild enchanter make the distilled mana at cost for about 205pp per distilled mana. I just give him a few finished tunics for his personal tribute. With CT being a hot zone, and lower lvl players going there for a chance at that aug that drops, I have been able to purchase quite a few blood vials lately. There really isn't a good market for selling these tunics (I usually put a few on my mule for 1k each), but at least my guild tribute is always at the max, as well as most of my closer friends in the guild.
