  • Bonus chace to skill-up

Ok, I know Master Symbols and armors have a 5% bonus chance and Grandmaster symbols and armors are 10%, does anyone know if Bazu/Chronal/Discordant/Lastblood Seals have a bonus chance to skill up?

They certainly seem like they do. I have no real evidence to back that up though.

I doubt they would. Seals are much cheaper to make compared to GM stuff so I'd see no reason to add a bonus unless it's like 1%.

And the parts for the seal are not that rare.

Bonus chance to skill-up? Wow.. this is the first I have heard of it. I had thought I was getting lucky on those GM combines.

Are there other items like this in other trades that have such a bonus? (I would assume tailoring of master/GM equipment has a similar bonus)

Master's armor and type 11 augs have a 5% bonus chance to skill up, and Grandmaster armors and augs have a 10% bonus chance. This applies to both smithed and tailored armors/augs.

...and it apparently applies to tinkered armors and augments too.

May want to add the DoN cultural sewing kits to the "bonus chance" list. I was making Northman Sewing Kit on my shaman yesterday and I swear she was getting a skillup almost every other combine. I'll have to dig through my logs to find hard figures, but it was pretty nice.

I'm reasonably sure the sewing kits are more good luck than anything else. No one has reported exceptional skillups before, nor have the devs hinted at it.

Having said that, even if they had a bonus chance, a consistent rate of one skillup per two combines is extremely high. Bonus chances rarely take skillup chances over 15%, and you're talking 50%.

I just parsed my log, sort of (first time ever using Yalp).

                      67 skillups
                      302 combines (68 failures, 234 successes).

I went from 95 to 162, and had a 5% mod equipped. Guess I exagerated a bit in my original post, but that's still a fantastic skill-up rate.

Depends on your int/wis/str at the time.

To go from 95-162 with a 5% mod on that particular combine, the average combines needed are:

                        482.7 for 100 int/wis/str
                        321.8 for 150
                        241.4 for 200
                        228.2 for 255

So, your rate would be around the expected rate if your int/wis/str were in the neighborhood of, say, 160 (301.7 needed)...if your stat is lower, you got a bit lucky...but even at 100, that's not really out of the ordinary.

Yalp can parse skillups? How? This could save me so much time. =)

It was a bit timeconsuming. I copied the section of my log where I was doing that particular combine to a seperate file, then just did a search for certain phrases to see how many times they occured.

"You have become better at ..."
                            "You lacked the skills"
                            "You have fashioned ..."

There may be a better way to do this, but I've never used Yalp, or any other parser, before.

Ahh, I see. I've done that before myself. You're right, it's a manual and tedious process.
