  • "Cheap" method for skilling up

    So I had started to level smithing a LONG time ago and got frustrated because it was expensive. Now after spending so much money on Alchemy, I don't think it was nearly as expensive as I thought it was at the time.

    My current skill is at a pitiful 37 and I was wondering if anyone has a "cheap" way of skilling up my smithing. (term used loosely since nothing is really cheap in smithing )

    I'm not sure how far I want to go, but I was trying to skill it up in order to be able to make me some froglok cultural armor, which seems to be void on the 7th hammer at the moment. Don't necessarily need to be able to make GM armor, I think master's would be fine. Also, I don't mind farming since I'm used to doing that from Alchemy

    Any suggestions would be very much appreciated

    Secone did a really great job on the writeup.

    Personally I got my skillups ages ago before they changed the trivials on a lot of things, and before the cap was raised to 300 so my route was very different.

      That list is similar to my method, but I suggest using 5% mod and skipping from cultural sewing kit strait to enchanted velium bits. The supply farming is a lot faster. If you have Smithing Mastery 3, then when the bits trivial you will start seeing reasonable success chances on the easier pieces of GM armor.

        Use the quest in either Abysmal Sea or Crescent Reach to get to 54, the linked writeup path to get past the sewing kits and then gargoyle eyes will take you to 212 with cultural. Much less of a pain than fine plate. And you can generally find gargoyle eyes on npc vendors fairly easily. After that you can pick and choose between all the painful ways to get to 300!

          Thanks so much for the suggestions Think I'll hit up abysmal sea first off. I had forgotten about the quests there

          Edit: What's the quest in Cresent Reach called? Would be a little less out of the way and prettier than Abysmal sea, lol.

              The main difference between the Abysmal and Cresent tasks is that the one in Cresent allows you to move to the next step as soon as your skill reaches the trivial of what you're making, while the Abysmal one requires you to keep working that step until you complete a (relatively high) set number of hand-ins. Also, if you do the Abysmal one, you learn to refine the GoD drops yourself, while the Cresent one doesn't teach you that.
