  • "Thul Tae Ew Blood" or "Tae Ew Blood"

Okay, i've been looking everywhere and I can't find definitively what the blood is called for CT smithing. The recepies section in multiple places on this site it says:

"Thul Tae Ew Blood (no stack)"

but all the message board posts say:

    "Tae Ew Blood"

I found a vial of "Tae Ew Blood (stackable)" last night and it's yellow and looks like a celestial essence but I'm not sure that this is the right one.

Can someone confirm this please? Thanks in advance.

Last week I found 7 of these on a vendor and passed them by because I thought they needed to be "Thule".

I still haven't gotten over that.

Does anyone know a FAIR market value for Tae Ew Blood Vials? I understand they are fairly rare, but i don't want to rake the tradeskill community by overcharging for them.
          Incidentaly, I'm on Morrell-Thule.

            Tae Ew Shield Info

Correction to the type of blood used:
Went 4 for 4 on these suckers. Blood you need is Tae Ew Blood and is stackable (looks like a yellow vial, like Essence of Sunlight), not the Thul Tae Ew Blood or whatever it's listed as. Brew Tae Ew Blood + Scale Temper for the Lizard Blood Temper you need.

            Smithy Hammer Bug:
Bugged currently in the making process however in that it gives back a Velium Smithy Hammer instead of the regular smithy hammer. Velium Smithy Hammer can't be used in place of the regular Smithy Hammer either (got DNC message).

            Selling Price:
Finally, on Tholuxe Paells atleast, I managed to sell a Tae Ew shield for 17k easily (I was feeling Generous at the time, was my first shield after all). Orb Of Infinate Void (OOIV) came up at 20k in a Price Check in the bazaar, so I figure 19k to 23k is probably the "reasonable asking price" on these shields on TP, though you should probably base your prices on current going rate of OOIV's. OOIV was closest shield I could find that would be on par with this shield AC and stat wise, though my opinion is that the Tae Ew Shield is superior by far unless you really need the extra 25hp and 25 mana over the extra 8 Strength, 3 Intelligence, 3 Wisdom, 25 vs Fire, 10 vs Magic, 7 vs Poison, and 7 vs Disease.

              Fair market

2 days of hunting in CT netted me 24 vials of blood and 1 pristine scale.

I'd say 'fair' market price for blood around 500pp...scales, well, sell em to me.

              2/2 on the shield...yay.
              Good travels,

On Povar not having luck getting the blood from the front door lizards. Is there a specific mob that drops them more often?

                      tae ew blood

I've gotten one off the zone-in lizards but I assume that was extremely rare... the drops in 4c and silver temple are much better.

I stumbled across five of these on a vendor last week and bought them for some 227pp each. Not having much experience on how to price these, or the difficulty in obtaining them, I used my usual strategy of matching the bazaar low price. This started them off at 10,000pp each. Over the next few days, I kept checking the bazaar and matching the low price. They dropped to 5000, then 4000, then finally 3500. Within two days I'd sold all five at that price.

Assuming that my experiences were representative, I'd price my next batch at 4500pp and then drop it little by little to see when people start to bite. The problem with this strategy is that I don't know if people are holding back because of my price, or because they lack the other components. Odds are that even if I'd kept my price at 5k or 10k, the buyers would have taken them anyway once they got the remaining components.

My philosophy is that if you're rich enough or uber enough to get the gear these make, then the price I charge is likely to be irrelevant. You'll buy it at my asking price anyway.

                          [Begin side story]
Speaking of folks with too much money...

I tend to put my leather padding on my trader mule for storage until I need to use it. I put it up somewhere above the market average price. I figure if someone buys it off me, then I can make it up later with the cheaper stuff at the market price.

So I decide to take another crack at fine plate. I gather and make a few stacks of padding and check market price; it's averaging 30pp each, with some vendors selling in quantity at 25pp. So I put them on my mule for 35pp each and head to the smithing vendor for ore. As I'm making the folded sheets, I notice someone bought my padding! I check the market, and there's bucketloads of padding selling for 25pp. OK... I finish off the ore, go buy my padding for 25pp, pocket the 10pp profit each, and make my armor.

Next day, I again do the same thing. This time, to save myself the aggravation of having to re-buy padding, I price it at 40pp. By now, the market average had dropped to 25pp. Again, my padding sells before the cheap stuff!

While I'm thankful for my good fortune, I'm confused at why folks would choose to buy from a more expensive vendor when another trader has a larger stock at a lower price...

I should add that I've seen the crafted Tae Ew weapons and shields in the bazaar for anywhere between 10k and 30k. Assuming that the other components are easy to obtain (common drops or cheaply found in the bazaar), my previous quote would be a high end of the fair range.

Perhaps an appropriate comparison could be made to Heraldic armor. On Veeshan, the limiting factor appears to be Essence of Sunlight to make Royal Temper. You need two Essences per piece of armor. The armor itself sells for between 4k and 15k, depending on the piece, the number of rings, and the popularity of the associated diety.

The sellers of the Essence tend to demand 300-400pp per Essence; the buyers are sticking to 100pp each.

At one extreme (400pp each on a 4k piece), this means the cost of Essences alone accounts for 20% of the armor's sale price. At the other (100pp each on a 15k piece), the Essences account for a mere 1.3%.

Not sure if the comparison is entirely meaningful, but it does provide some food for thought on optimal pricing.

If you don't mind my asking, what merchants are you finding these on? I sure would like a few pieces of that chain armor...
