  • Total cost of 115 to 188?

I need to do it, I have to do it, but I'm just curious as to what sorta bite it's going to take out of my bank account to get my smithing to 188 past banded.

I may do a little bit of HQ ore farming, though I'll likely do the majority of it off vendors, doing the necessary quest to keep the vendors stocked.
For leather padding I can make my own by just going to Everfrost and massacering wolfs, bears, and spiderlings.

My understanding is that Fine Steel sells back to vendors similarily to JC in that you lose almost nothing if you farm your own padding.
Ornate, however, I can't seem to find any info on what cost vs. sellback is.

I can expand on the information you have for Fine Steel, but not Ornate as I have never made it.

With Fine Steel, you are correct, the sellback price is 1 to 3 pp less than the total cost of the store bought items.

I made FS from skill 175 to 188, and it cost me around 1.3 to 1.8k, sorry I never kept the figures noted.

I think that at the start it may cost you a bit more, as lowest FS triv listed is 163 for Visor, so you will be working at 48 skill points below....

    I hope this helps

      Not too bad really.

        Ornate sellback

I've just worked my way almost all the way through ornate and have farmed all my ore (HGs in rathe mts). With ore farming, I find that I make a little money over the cost of other components (chain pattern, precious metal). Not a lot, maybe 5-10% more than component cost, but definitely not a money sink. It does require the time, though, to farm the fine steel weapons.

Note that this was true for silver, electrum and gold. I haven't done any platinum armor (and don't plan to, save perhaps to see how much it sells for).

You can often buy fine steel weapons off of players in the zones where they drop for the prices that the players would otherwise sell them to the vendors for, too (especially around splitpaw and rathe), 5 or 6 p a weapon.

        Cheers,
