  • Shrouding down DoN avg level

    Hello and thanks for reading, I tried searching for the answer but had no luck.

    Can you shroud down to lower the average level of Stillmoon Temple Instances (Diseased Pumas) and still be able to get Rough Patch of Goblin Skin for the Grandmaster Armor quest? The only instance people seem to want these days is Creator... If I could lower the instance level, perhaps I could solo it.

    Shrouding down works up to a point -- if you are level 70, and can get a couple of level 65 shrouds to join you, the average level would be 66.7, so you should get a slightly easier instance. I am not sure how much easier that would be, though.

      Is there a minimum level requirement to make GM armor? Was just wondering how if any lower level barbarian smiths could confirm how they got their Rough Patches of Goblin Skins.

        In order to get the quest for each tier of symbols, you need to be at least the minimum level that can wear that tier (so Grandmaster would have a minimum level of 65.) I know next to nothing about shrouding, so I can't say whether getting the task and shrouding down for the instance would work or not.

        The armor itself has no minimum level to make, but it doesn't require a task to complete anyway.

          I'm not terribly sure if shrouding down will allow you to get an easier mission in DoN. I do know, from personal experience, that such a trick will NOT work with LDoN missions. You can certainly get a lower level dungeon while shrouded down, but when you return in your true form and try to enter the dungeon, you get booted out instantly and a message appears saying "You've been diverted from that dungeon since you no longer fit the criteria for that adventure. Have you changed?". Nice try, but no cigar.

          On the other hand, shrouding down WILL work for getting easier critters in the Forgotten Halls, and will also work in getting easier expeditions in Dranik's Hollows. So it might be possible to get an easier DoN mission using such a trick, although given the high level required and tough critters one must fight, it might not amount to much.

          On a side note, check out this superb article to see just what you can do with shrouds. It's located at:

            I gave this a try over the weekend. Got 3 people in group and had all shroud down to 60 to get the mission and we removed the shrouds.

            We zoned in expecting to find some light blue cons, but all were dark blues. I did not get a single rough patch of goblin skin to drop. Maybe it was bad luck, but I doubt the skin will drop when the level has been lowered.

            At this point, I am not sure how I will complete this quest...Why does the Rough Patch of skin of have to come from Stillmoon temple instances? I even spoke with a friend in a raid guild who said that the skins did not drop in raid instances of Stillmoon like the Guardian of the Sands event.

            Group DoN is starting to feel like LDON...something that nobody does...If any devs see this, could it please be reviewed?

              I've pretty-much given up on getting the GM task done on my Cleric, even though I only need Lavaspinners missions (High Elf).

              You're right, DoN is just something people don't do much anymore... which is kinda sad, really.

                  I have done this quite a bit getting my goblin skins, and yes it works.

                  First yes you can shroud down to get DoN missions, and you can drop shroud after getting mission, you do no have to do it as shroud (Ei. 3 level 70s, one shrouds to 60, you get missions, and drop shroud and you have 3 level 70 people to do mission.

                  Monsters are afew levels below the level of the mission, in 60 missions they are 57-58 and thus not light blue to 70s.

                  ONLY level 65 and 70 missions drop the quest items.

                    I have done something similar so I could get the arachnid eye clusters from lavaspinners. I tried to 3 box 70 Shm, Nec, Mag but found the going too tough so resorted to shrouds.

                    My first attempt was a level 70 with two level 55 shrouds. The average level was too low for the eye clusters to drop.

                    My second attempt was with a level 70 and two level 60 shrouds. This produced an instance that dropped the eye clusters and the mobs could be tanked by pets or casters.

                    So: get shrouds, get instance, drop shrouds, zone in.

                      DoNs come in 60, 65 and 70 versions (dont know about 75). This is bases on the average level rounded down.

                      Avg level
                      58-62.99 -> 60 mission
                      63-67.99 -> 65 mission (drops quest itmes)
                      68-?= -> 70 mission (drops quest items and armor components)

                      So with 3 level 70s you only nee to shroud one down to 60 to get the desired mission.
