Is it rewardfull to go GM smither if you don't farm your own componement ?

I could easely farm any GM componement with my Necro but I badly hate farming.

So if I buy all of my componement in bazaar. Would I still make a profite with Smithing succes and fail ?

Farming your own components is always more profitable. However, to answer your question we would need to know your server economy, your skill, and numerous other things. Even if everthing was very positive, you would need a large bankroll as a run of bad luck on the combines could deplete your bank account fastly.

The primary parts of GM armor are not something you can go farm solo.

Coarse Spider silk and Metallic Drake Scales are rare drops, and you need to do group instances/missions in DoN to get them. You will eventually get some, but not enough to do a lot of combines or anything.

I've personally looted about 6 metallic drake scales and 2 coarse spider silk. I used the scales to make a handful of augments (1 for me, the rest for cleric alt). Everything else I had to purchase, or had guildmates bring me the materials to do combines for them.

Generally, you'll suffer a loss when skilling up and turn a profit once your skill is high enough to do the best combines. The market is usually flooded with the pieces folks make to get skill ups, so the prices are very low.

As far as turning a profit with all Bazaar purchases, that usually only works for newly discovered recipes. Once people are aware of profitable combines, the supply of the materials goes down and the prices go up, and eventually there's little or no profit in it.

You have to be very watchful and devoted to turn a profit at tradeskills. For most folks, it costs a lot more to get skill ups than you ever regain from selling items.

Actually, if you are patient, you can make a profit in smithing. Early on, you'll have to essentially buy your way in, but enchanted velium bits will take you to 222 without costing you an arm and a leg. From there, you can definitely make a profit.

I have made and sold for profit:
          • bazu armor
          • magnetic armor
          • muramite sheets
          • muramite chain links
          • white gold inlays
          • black gold inlays
          • master armor and symbols
          • grandmaster armor and symbols
          • bazu seals
          • discordant seals
          • chronal seals

I still make these items and sell them at a profit. You have to be patient in buying raw materials, but raw materials for all of the above sell in the bazaar. You have to sell your products at a fair price that earns you a profit and avoid price wars when you can.

I've always been fortunate to be on the cutting edge of new Smithing products on Xegony...

Even so, I could make a profit with GM Moonglade armour just buying the MDS's. It would be tight, but I could do it. I have a friend who makes the GM Symbols and I sell them for him, but if I could ever get my GM Symbol Quest done I'm sure I could make a moderate profit on those as well...

But then, I also have a very strong reputation as a Seller and a number of return customers (for their alts, usually) and word-of-mouth referrals.

The other side of it is that you can make $$ without farming or buying in bazaar. I answered a shout in POK last night, 5 minutes and 4 combines later I was handed 50kpp and a thank you.

I did the farming route through shadowscream (like 267), then spent about 80k getting to 280 on MCS. Then bought six scales for another 120k and made a BP and legs (lucky on combines - 2 for 2). Sold the BP and legs for 150k each.

                My investment 200k + time
                My return (so far) 300k

I probably could have farmed better stuff for the time than the 100k profit so far, but that's just the profit so far. As long as there are buyers out there, I'll be making stuff to sell to them.
