    I'm wondering if beefing up your strength as high as possible while doing smithing combines actually increases your chances of success. I'm at 250 skill now and making sickles - I make the blade, hilt and pommel in PoK and then head to the GH to make the sickles...but not without grabbing wunshi and Ancestral Aid from a shaman - this beefs my STR to over 500 (can't remember the exact number off the top of my head but it's pretty high. Anyways, is there really a connection between STR (and possibly other stats that I'm unaware of) and smithing? I understand the concept behind it, you should be strong to smith something since you are working with sometimes heavy materials and a hammer etc etc - but does it really matter or can I do these combines unbuffed and get the same results?

    Smithing uses the highest of int/wis/str to determine skillup rate. More than 400 won't change anything.

      Strength (and all the other stats) do NOT affect your success rate. Strength does affect your chance to skill up, though -- it's actually the highest of STR, WIS, or INT for smithing.

        Has the Guild Hall "bug" been fixed? Ngreth advised against skilling up in GH not too long ago.

          I think the bug was associated with the combines themselves (or more so, combines not working) that was the problem. Still, as the ogre stated, it would probably be best to not do combines in an instanced zone (like the guild hall) until all the bugs are worked out.

            You might find it easier to prep 10 slot bags worth of CE, mistletoe temper, etc. and then grab a Wunshi and hit Abysmal Sea to make the Blessed subcobnes and the final combines. The gems are not too far away, and the sheet metal and molds are for sale in the same cabin as the forge. I've found that getting a full ten slot bag of emeralds imbued gives me enough, after fails are taken into consideration, for about 60 MCS combines, and they're fairly easy to knock out in Abysmal once you have all the stuff set up.

              He's doing them in the guild hall so he can tribute them, so Abysmal sea isn't a good option.

                I do all of my sickle combines in PoK and I put the ones I successfully make into the shared bank slot and park them on a mule(s). When I am finished with my run of combines I will feed both the guild tribute taker as well as my personal one. Yes, it involves camping multiple times, but as least I don't go LD like I used to after a few camps.

                  There's a guild tribute master in PoK. She's at the top floor of the tower between the two bridges on neutral side, name's Chaunna Graice.

                  Of dubious convenience, but occasionally useful information.
