  • Smithing from 222-267

Im going to do shadowscream armor combines and i've been farming wailing/shrieking/swirlings now all weekend. I now have enough for 135 attempts of boots and gloves. I have tanaan aa's but don't have my smithing aa's or return components on failures aa's.

im a 70 froglok cleric with my smithing trophy from freeport and max wisdom with aa's (390) and I always do combines with wunshi (420 strength i think).

i plan on going from 222 - 228 doing steel collars
    228 - 248 doing boots
    248 - 262 doing gloves
    262 - 267 doing cloak

    Here is my question.

Should i wait until i have completed my smithing aa's and return component on failure aa's before starting these?

Since the compoents are so cheep (but PITA to farm) I wouldn't worry about BSM and salvage AA's yet.I would get enough for 200 combines if you can stand it hehe.

I wouldn't wait. Personally, I don't plan on ever getting the mastery AAs, though salvage is in the plan somewhere.

I was recently in same situation, my advise is to do the Cleansed Breastplate till 227, esp since as a cleric you can bind up top next to Aid, lev and run to forge, combine and gate, repeat...gets tiring but i found it a lot less hassle than Shadowscream, i'm onto the next step now, i have some BS aa's and salvage 3, str 430+ and to honest it's prob around 1 skill up per 20 combines if that for me....back to hollowshade )

        Good luck tho !

You don't need lev anymore. Couple patches ago they disabled falling damage in PoK (don't ask me why).

hollowshade is slow but thank god i just load my two biggest aoe nukes, and have my tier 2 don spell up (550 dmg) and it's kill kill kill. still slow as heck.

swirling's are pretty easy and quick tho, i have my alt 66 sk camped on southern island in twilight. he kills off the island, logs off (i log off to save the buffs), waits 15 min, rinse repeat.

            350 swirlings and 150 wailing/shriekings now.

Need PoP flags to do breastplate.

              < 0 PoP flags

Get Salvage for sure. It is a huge help wether you are skilling up on junk or crafting expensive items. Get it ASAP.

but why do i want to also have to get brewing up to make acid wash (151 trivial), Hurricane temper (135 triv), and hunt for the raw diamond and mephit blood?

when i can easily, granted with time, farm everything for shadowscream armor from hollowshade or twilight

When doing this for skill you only perform the first combine in the quest, using the acid wash, and then destry the bp and ask Grimel for a new one. It's very very cheap to make (less than 1pp per iirc, too lazy to check atm), and tradeable. Perhaps you could find someone with decent brewing? I required less than 2 stacks to skill 222-227 myself. It will require (iirc) that you have your Bertox flag though.

The reason people do this, especially people who can gate, is that it takes maybe an hour worst case to get these 5pts of skill, and it's cheap. If I hadn't picked up my Bert flag the same week I finished EVBs I might have skipped it as well. I never did check to see if it was possible without Bert, though I have heard it still isn't.

                    Good luck

You do need to make the acid wash but that is it. Once you get the BP from the NPC ("I am well versed in the art of smithing." Minimum unmodified skill of 220.) You combine it with the acid wash in a forge and you are done. Destroy anything that results, go back up to the top, shift+up arrow, then repeat.

You only have to do the rest if you are completing the task.

And why get your brewing up? So that you can do recipes that require tempers, without having to count on a friend or hope the bazaar has your temper.
