  • Yet Another Progression Question..

Anyone know if Ogre War Plate and Ogre Splintmail recipes are valid on the progression servers? It seems as all the components should be available if I'm reading them correctly..

Not 100% sure, But I think the splintmail is part of the BD, Blue Diamond, cultural armor. which came out in velious from what I have read. I remember during beta that they were going to take this out.

Can't say for 100% if they did though.

I am fairly certain that they have been disabled for progression server until a certain expansion opens (and no, I do not know which expansion off the top of my head and may not say anyway) because despite how not so uber it is, it is still "too good" for original expansion content.

Correct me if I'm wrong, since I'd started playing shortly after Velious was released, but didn't old style cultural come along after Kunark but well before Velious?

The BD cultural (so called because they require the use of blue diamonds in crafting the tempers to create the culturally inspired alloys) came along after Luclin; maybe after PoP its been a while I forget the timeline.

Anyways, thats when you can expect the culturals to come along. Although, you might want to see if you can brew the tempers now, and stock up ...

BD cultural required vellium which was not available until velious

While BD cultural does use velium, Astroshak is correct in that it was introduced after Luclin went live. (shortly after if memory serves)

The original cultural armors (imbued and enchanted) were put in quite a bit sooner than that, though I don't recall exactly when. My guild was just starting to farm PoHate when BD's were first introduced, so I'm guessing at least a few months after Kunark but before Velious. (Aside:The enchant spells for HQ ore, Brellium, etc. originally required a gem component, and BDs were required for a couple races' enchant spells as well as in jewelry recipes.)

Are the original cultural armors active on progression? I don't know if those would be unbalancing or not, but those armor sets weren't 100% complete, I believe, with a couple possible race/deity combinations not covered, I believe.

It's far more than just "a couple", many of the race/class/diety combinations do not have a specific armor set. So often times they must use a non-imubed, no diety restriction version instead (which has slightly reduced stats).

                BD cultural

                Some background

When Kunark came out I started an Iksar Warrior and played that for several months. At that time, the Iksars being limited to their version of chain/plate could not wear the dyed plate armors that other warriors could wear, and so were limited to smithing up their own version of armors.

For clarification, there are the quested armors that are class/race specific were you kill xx mob and turn in xx part along with xx gems and receive xx armor piece. At the same time there was the version of smithing armors that took xx number of iskar blood and froglok blood and sarnak blood and made a temper and used that to smith up the armors that were wearable by both iskar warriors and iksar shamans but not the monks, necros or later the BL's. There was the normal and also the imbued types at the same time.

It wasnt until much later, at the next expansion Velious, that the BD cultural version of Iksar armor came out. At that time and still to this day, It was not worth the time and effort to collect the ingredients for the level of the armor. This was due to the armor quests coming out of Velious being much easier and better.
