Am I missing something here? I recently ran down to the city here and spent 3+ hours slaughtering every gargoyle in sight (65 BL and 70 wizard) and received exactly 0 piles of gravel for my efforts. I gave it up as a lost cause and have resigned myself to sickles (I'm doing shadowscream for my hi elf wizard, with the occasional run on master gear.... need a break from Hollowshade)

Gravel drops in the Hole are very slow. While I never went there trying to farm them, I did work on AAs on the bottom 2 tunnels back when it was a Hot Zone. Averaged 1 pile of gravel per 2 hours or so.

I'm finishing off shadowscream at the moment and trying to figure out my path to 300. Am I just missing something, or do Black Acrylia weapons look like a good way to go? I can get the bricks for 15p or less each in bazaar, akheva blood is farmabe (though clerics are a pain) or can be found for 100pish in bazaar. Triv is 302... what am I missing?

God I wish erudites had smithing cultural instead of tailoring...

Black Acrylia weapons requires 2 tempers, and each temper requires a vial of distilled mana. So that's 4x105pp (Sapphires) = 420pp each and you are still either buying or farming the other parts (blood, essence and black acrylia)

MCS around 350-400pp each (depending on making or buying subparts) and no farming.

No clue on what the weapons sell or tribute for but when it comes down to it in the end any option is good when trying to get last few points, and variety keeps things interesting.

Also keep in mind the Black Acrylia weapons are all lore... so you can't stockpile them up. I made a couple every now and then when I was skilling up, but unless you're willing to just destroy them or tribute them (no idea what their tribute value might be), you'd need a few toons to store a skillup run.

I've been doing MCS to skillup since 250. I don't like the other options for skilling up because none of the stuff drops with great frequency resulting in ridiculous prices in the bazaar. I can purchase from an NPC vendor who will ALWAYS have what I need, in mass quantities for relatively low cost.

I'm currently at 263 right now. I'm close to 60 a day and only see 1 skillup.

              Oh yeah

Do you get skillups faster if the trivial of what you're working on is closer to your actual level?

                Technically yes:

You have a better chance at a skill up from a success than you do from a failure, and the closer a trivial is to your skill level, the better chance you have for a success. So, in that sense, closer to your skill level is a better chance to skill up.

                  But with this caveat:

If both combines are at a 95% success rate (maximum success rate), then it doesn't matter which one you do. The success rate will be the same.

When you are at lower skill levels, this will usually mean sticking closer to your skill level. However, at the low skill levels, combines are generally cheap and easy to come by, and skillups come quickly anyway. At higher skill levels, this principle comes more into play. But at that point, levelled up trophies help reduce the gap, and you can be at 95% success rate even 20-30 points below the trivial.

Any nibbles about new recipes for smithing in the Serpent Spine Expansion? Is there a launch date established yet?

After going 1 for 43 (success on my very first combine) on Acrylia Breastplates a couple of months ago, got very frustrated and moved onto other things. I really want to get to 250 or so to try the numerous 282 skill paths, but shadowscream scares the crap out of me having to farm 3 separate things for a single combine, the Swirling Shadows being the worse because of repop rate.

Pretty sure I'm going to burn the 60 or so shadowscream that I have saved up, provided I get the nerve to farm about 30 more swirling shadows, and then wait for new opportunities in the new expansion . . . unless somebody has some better options I haven't considered.
