Anyone have a ball park estimate of how much leather padding it takes to get from 154-188 with 165 int? I have farmed about ten stacks of padding in prep for this and am curious if u guys think i should get more.

I went through close to 200 attempts from 170 to 188 with wisdom in the high 190's to 237.

I would think that between 175 and 179 the cheapest of the three options would be the Helm. If you don't like your results with it or the BP, your other option is greaves.
Personally, your skillup rate will be the same no matter what Item you do. So I generally suggest going with the cheapest/easiest to do. Hence I would stick with the helm until 179. If you don't get a skillup after 20 or more combines, Walk away. Come back later and try again. The RNG is extremely streaky, and if you go more than 20 or so combines without one, you are likely stuck in a bad streak that may end in one combine or 100. I would rather not risk it myself.Arrakeen Naed'Shoj

perseverence, how in the world did you get a skill up every 5 combines between 138 and 188? I am also a paladin smith who smitsh with 255 and on average get a skill up 1 every 13. Did you generally use the same forge over and over again? And if so which one?

Actually I think my original post was a bit off, it was more like 150 to 200 attempts...
I did Helm, then Legs and then BP myself. I remember the Helm trivialing very quickly and then the legs as well, got stuck on the B.P but I think I had a 50 combine run on the last point.
Anyways I would just gather about 500 LP's, as you will need them later on in life, for your cultral. Or just sell them, in case you do have alot of failures and loose a bit of money on skilling up on FP.
If you didn't know, Stonebrunt is excellent for gathering pelts, and Feerott for spiderlink silks.... or if you have the ability to port around, visiting the merchants in various zones (e.c etc) can net you a surprising amount of pelts and silks for very little leg work.....
With your Int at 162, I would be more inclined to get your int much higher before/when you do skillups.... Selling Leather Paddings could net you some cash to help with that....
Good luck, and if you can could you post your results for us to see ?

Hi Bggumpi,
I did 3 sessions in PoK next to the dwarf with 1 forge in the room not the room with 2 forges. I had 255 strength, 175 wisdom and my geerlok.
First session was 96 combines and 24 skill ups. I failed 4 LP combines
Second session was 100 combines and 14 skill ups.
Third session was going to be 110 combines but after 46 combines I got the last 12 skill ups and sold the left over padding at 20pp each
My cost for skilling up from 138 to 188 was less than 500pp due to the amount of successes and selling LP I made myself. Making folded sheets is where my failures tended to occur and brought up costs. I am a very happy camper anyways.
I just started my Shadowscream Armor this weekend. Did 50 combines and got all of 3 skill ups.But on the bright side it didn't cost anything after sellbacks

Guh
I have done fairly well up to about 180 - then it bottomed out - 92 combines later only 4 points increase with FP BP. Here's my question:
I've got 255 Strength with my Narandi's Lance, Storm Strength and Yaulp III going. My wisdom is 173 (with KEI).
Which is giving to give me more skill ups? I thought it would be my strength, but after seeing these posts.... I am curious to see if I am wrong.
Also, I don't use the Geerlok Hammer I have (+5% mod) - because it drops my Str to 251. Should I use it in place of my Lance?
Finally, I've the question of what to do next. I am a High Elven Pally, and have a druid mule farming Dews, but I am seeing threads for some other armor (name eludes me I am tired :? ) where items drop in Hollowshade and Twilight. Should I pursue the cultural or this other armor. Getting Dews and Swirling Mists seem to be my major problem.
I know this is alot of questions, and slightly off thread, but any advice would be helpful. Thanks guys and gals!
Respectfully yours,Amaril Lovelas

About skillraise and sucess!
Your skillraise is affected by EITHER STR INT or WIZ the one that are highsest determinds it!
Your sucess are determind by your SKILL nothing else!
So I wonder why are you haveing high wiz? when you have so high STR?
Also I have done fine plate collar and was having about 1 skill / stack leatherpaddings. Now I am working with STR 207 and have 4 skills / stack of leatherpaddings (20 attempt).
I have done the 150 - 172 with my "new" knowledge about STR and the costs are 800pp totaly with failure and all! (CHA 104).Sarxas Siaxovog -Dwarf Palladin on Druzzil Ro!

I posted my story elsewhere, but basically, I went from 150-ish (about 155, but I forget) to 186 in some 300 combines over the last couple of days.
I've noticed that skillups come MUCH faster when you're working on an item with a trivial some 20 points or more above your skill. Wish I could find (or make) stats to prove this, though.Sir KyrosKrane Sylvanblade
