  • Salvage Bugged, or very rare?

    Is salvage bugged?

    300 skill, 315 with hammer, Mstry 3, Slvg 3.

I attempted GM High Elf greaves in December, just before christmas. I failed, but only lost 1 GM sheet, salvage returned all but the one.

I failed a combine just a couple weeks ago on a bazu breastplate and the only thing I got back was the hammer. I thought something was fishy then, so I petitioned that I thought it was bugged. The GM responded, and actually gave me all the items back to my surprise, but the GM did not however deny or confirm that Salvage is bugged.

I tried another GM High Elf greaves combine this morning (finally won another scale), and failed again, but salvage did not return anything but the hammer this time.

I have not made many combines since I finished the AA, please share your experience with salvage and what is considered average.

Salvage seems like it fires about 25-50% of the time, I haven't really pegged how often yet, but it's random like everything in EQ.

I've had plenty of times where I have salvaged nothing, I've also had times when I have salvaged all 8-10 items of a combine, and times I have only salvaged 1 or 2 pieces of it.

It doesn't save everything, definitely doesnt save things all the time either. But, it has been a massively invaluable addition to my tradeskilling (It alone has saved me almost 500k in failed combines.)

I believe that it is 15% chance PER item on a failed combine (not added...each item individually.) So, if it would normally use 3 components, you have a 15% chance of getting each one back (or about a 61% chance of getting nothing back.)

Of course, the higher the number of components, the greater the chance that you will get something back. Your results, however, are not at all odd...maybe even a bit lucky.

Basically, Salvage is nice when it fires off, but you shouldn't EXPECT to get anything back. You need to have 5 components minimum before your chances of getting ANYTHING back are over 50%. And then, that could simply be 1 Water Flask. /shrug.

wow, nice that you got your stuff back from your petition =)

in my experience, i'd say salvage 3 fires 25% of the time also. it's just super spotty, just like anything else. it still goes off frequently enough that i'm very happy i got it. sometimes i'll have a string of failures and no salvages at all, then i'll have a string of successes and the only failure returns everything.

i definitely feel disappointed when nothing gets salvaged, but when the runic parchment or the drake bit or the storm volaas hair doesn't disappear on a failure, it sure makes those AAs worth while!

            MY experience

While its limited was that Salvage saved me a lot of hassle. I finally got a hold of 2 pyrilen flames and was going to make bazu sleeves. Note, on the TEST server these drops are about impossible to come by.

Well I did the combine I've done a hundred times before and failed. And got BOTH flames back. I was about as happy as I could be.

Thank you for the responses, and for the link. I am a bit disaponted that it is not more of a chance, had the mistaken impression you got at least something back each time.

I am more aggrivated that it seems people with lower skill then me have better success rates, I hope this had been fixed and I am jsut reading old posts.

I was very surprised by the GM's return of my bazu stuff, it shows that there are some nice GM's no matter how bad people talk about them at times.

Count your lucky stars. Salvage is not bugged and the GM shouldn't have given you anything back.

It was probably easier to give him his stuff back than try to explain something the GM himself probably has no clue about.

But yea, it's random like everything else. I've done a brewing combine for a friend who had just 1 combine worth of stuff and I failed and salvaged everything and succeeded on 2nd try. Then I've also lost everything in GM tunic combine and that's like 3 hides, pattern and mithril or something like that.

Considering GM were clueless about salvage when it was introduced, I don't see why it would be any different now... I still remember my petition when I did a GM BP combine, failed with salvage but the sheets were not actually returned (got the salvage message on 2 sheets, just not the actual items). I petitioned and re-petitioned and kept being told, sorry, the combine failed because you don't have the required quest/skills/aa's or such... Er no, I had the DoN quest, the skills, the aa's, the successful salvage, just not the results of the successful salvage...

It'd be nice if salvage didn't get wasted on items that are already guaranteed to be returned anyway (like hammers, corking device, etc)

The salvage check is independantly made on every single item in the recipe.

It cannot get "wasted" on an auto-return item.

Was fun when it fired on things that auto returned (resulted in getting 2 items back). Using 2 gem studded chains to make dozens of solstice robes and ending with 6 chains was priceless.
